Summary
“Hey!” Buck says brightly, completely oblivious to Eddie’s irritation. His voice is filled with excitement as he continues. “Did you know that the ancient Greeks used tattoos to communicate among spies? They—”
“You didn’t do the dishes,” Eddie interrupts, not trying to hide or sugarcoat his annoyance. He’s fucking tired of this. He asked Buck to do one thing, and instead of doing it, Buck apparently went on another research binge.
Buck looks almost surprised when his eyes land on the dirty dishes, like he completely forgot they were there.
“Oh,” he says, huffing a small laugh. “Right. I got a little distracted. I’ll do them in a minute.”
“Will you?” Eddie asks with a bitter scoff, and Buck reels back slightly, clearly not having expected that reaction.
“I— Yes, I will,” Buck insists, and Eddie can’t help but scoff again.

"Welcome home, kid," Bobby greeted, upon seeing that bright shiny soul for the very first time. As large and as full of life as Buck had been in his time on earth.
"Bobby," Buck gasped out, an addicting joy that quickly exploded tenfold as Buck noticed everyone else that was there to welcome him in to eternity. "Eddie, Maddie!"

Summary
“I’ll do it,” Eddie repeats, looking at Buck in one of those silent conversation ways again, but Buck actually can’t figure out what he’s trying to say this time. It messes with his brain, until Eddie speaks again, “I’ll pretend to only be a little offended none of you have thought to ask me before, but Buck, I’ve fixed a lot of cars. I can look at yours.”
(or, the check engine light comes on in Buck's Jeep, Eddie volunteers to fix it and carpool with him in the meantime, and it all breaks down from there, literally and metaphorically)

He swiped to answer. “Hey, Maddie,” he said, keeping his voice low. “Is everything alright?”
“Have you spoken to Buck today?” she asked, skipping right past any pleasantries.
“We aren’t exactly on speaking terms right now,” Eddie admitted, his gut twisting at the reminder. “I haven’t seen him except at work.”
“Damnit,” she swore. “So, nothing since Tuesday?”
“No, nothing.” A pause. Then, hesitant: “Maddie… is something wrong? Is Buck…” He exhaled sharply. “Is everything okay?”

“I feel like I should have made it clear to you that this was my first time dating a guy. It’s not really fair to make you my gay experiment.”
Tommy snorted out a laugh, and that shocked Buck so much that he unwittingly met the other man’s eyes, which were crinkled around the corners, and Tommy was smiling. Which was very much not the reaction that Buck had been expecting.
“Well, someone has to be your gay experiment,” Tommy pointed out. “Otherwise how will you ever know if you like it?”

Summary
There’s a nudge at his hand, a careful tap that finally makes him look up for the first time since they got there. Evan wipes his face hastily, trying to sniffle up the water in his eyes before anyone can see. He doesn’t want to cry, but sometimes he just can’t help it.
Because that’s his brother. That’s his big brother, in a hospital bed, with dark smudges under his eyes and a really bad cough that keeps getting worse, but he’s smiling at Evan like it’s all going to be okay.
All Evan heard was the machine. He counted the sounds, hoarded them, and wished he could just sit there and listen to the proof of his brother’s heart beating forever.
Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep –
***
Daniel needed more. More surgeries, more transfusions, more time. Evan couldn't give that to him, but maybe, years later, thanks to Eddie and Christopher and Bobby, he'll realize. He was always enough for Daniel.

Summary
Eddie is all fucking over him.
He falls asleep with his body sprawled over the broad expanse of Buck’s chest and wakes up with his face buried into the skin of his neck. They watch a movie together on Eddie’s couch and Eddie practically sits in his lap, head tucked under Buck’s chin as he blinks at the screen. When they’re alone, Eddie can’t stop himself from peppering kisses to Buck’s lips and his cheeks and his forehead as Buck giggles and pretends to try and duck. Under the dinner table every night, Eddie will hook his foot around Buck’s ankle and make Buck duck his head into a flushed smile. And Eddie is always, always holding Buck’s hand—running errands and in their own bed and at the grocery store and across the console while Buck’s driving them to work.
Maybe he’s just in the honeymoon stage. Or maybe this is how he’ll always feel—like every second he’s not touching Buck is a second wasted.

Summary
Eddie thinks, as he munches on a fry, that he’s angry. He’s angry that Buck was ever wronged, that Buck even felt he had to give him that look. He’s angry that he can’t just fix it, that he’s not good at fixing things but he’s really good at messing things up. He’s angry because he’s afraid of failing when Buck needs him.
He’s angry at Buck because he’s not here, and he’s angry because it’s easier than grief, because Eddie thinks this might be a type of grief. Because he misses Buck when he’s right there, because Eddie thinks this might be another thing like all the other things he needs to deal with, the things he pushes down so deep because just letting them sit around is enough to hurt.

Summary
Luckily, Eddie understands Buck perfectly even with the gag chopping the words. He pulls off just as Buck thinks he can’t take any more. “That’s good Buck. Such a good boy. Thank you for telling me.” Buck couldn’t stop the keen leaving him if he tried. Eddie has always been so adept at using praise to simultaneously tear Buck apart and put him back together. “Just one more. You can do that, can’t ya, darlin’?”
Buck inhales deeply at the accent slipping into Eddie’s words and snaps. He can do one more. Even though he knows this will stop as soon as he hits the edge again. He can do it. And he does. Eddie rides him hard and fast with Buck holding out as long as possible. It feels so good he almost gives in. Almost. Thankfully, Eddie notices and stops for the final time, slowly easing off and hunching over to nip at Buck’s neck.

Because everyone leaves. His entire life, no one has ever stayed with him. No one has wanted him enough to stay. He thought Eddie was different. God does he sound selfish. Buck knows it isn’t about him, but oh, is it so hard not to feel like he could’ve been better. Could’ve been more.
"Eddie."
"No."
"Eddie-"
"Don't make me choose between having you or my son,” Eddie says, voice cracking, “Because I didn’t have to choose when you weren’t an option, so don’t make yourself an option, Buck, please.”

Summary
“Hi, I’m Buck, a firefighter with the 136,” for now, the thought crashes through Buck, leaving a sour taste in his mouth. “Uh, you’re both welcome to take a tour with us, if you’d like.” Buck awkwardly scratches at his neck, running a hand through his hair, unsure what else to do, and it spurs the man in front of him to take a large step forward up to Buck’s bed.
“Eddie,” he says, thrusting a hand to him, and Buck reaches over without a second thought. His whole palm feels electric, it smarts and carries the touch of Eddie, Eddie, that Buck feels it completely. He has no idea what’s happening to him. “Edmundo Diaz, but just Eddie though, uh, no one calls me Edmundo. Right. I’m a new nurse here, at Cedars-Senai. Oh –”

Summary
Nova must have moved his paws, because Eddie dropped his voice lower and made it even more firm than he had since Buck had arrived, and said, “Sit. Stay.”
There was a thunk as the shoe hit the floor.
“That’s a good boy, there we go.” As smooth as butter, Eddie’s tone changed to a slow, honeyed drawl, dripping with affection and praise. Nova panted in response, his tail thumping quicker. Swish, thump. Swish, thump. Swish, thump. Thumpthumpthump. “Good boy, Nova.”
And Buck started sweating.

“Which do you think makes you feel most loved?”
Eddie thought for a long moment. Too long, maybe. Then he shrugged, “Honestly, Buck? I have no idea.”
Buck’s brows pinched up. “What do you mean? When have you felt the most loved?”
“Don’t make a big thing of this, Buck. Promise?”
Buck made a show of crossing his heart, brows still raised curiously.
“I’m not sure I’ve ever… really felt loved in a relationship? I’m not convinced that I know what makes me feel loved…”

“So, everything will be pretty straight forward. We’ll have opening statements, present evidence, you’ll testify.” Dana waved her hand over her files. “We’ll go over your testimony before you do so that when Mr. Malloy’s attorney questions you, you’ll be prepared to—”
“Do I have to?” Buck asked, flinching when Dana’s eyes turned sharp. “Do I have to testify?”

Summary
Buck flails and tries to sit up. “Eddie,” he gasps. “No, no, no, no. I need to go. I need to find him. I need—” He struggles, tries to squirm out of Eddie’s grip, and he growls, “Let me go. I need to find Christopher.”
“You back with us?” Hen asks, joining them on Buck’s other side and helping Eddie hold him down.
“What? No, let me go!” he says, struggling against Hen’s efforts to keep him still. His eyes grow hot with tears and he tries to dive over the side of the rescue boat, calling weakly for Christopher.
Eddie tackles him, his own eyes wet, and it’s looking into those sad brown eyes that finally brings Buck fully back to himself.“Stop. Where’s Christopher?”
“I don’t know,” Buck wails. “I’m so sorry. I—” He twists, tries to fight Eddie so he might jump back into the water, but the body atop him is heavy and he’s so, so tired.
“Buck,” Eddie says, tears sliding down his face and dripping onto Buck’s soaked shirt. “Buck, stop. I’m not losing you too.”
Buck slumps, letting his eyes flutter closed and giving in to the warm weight of Eddie’s body holding him down. “I’m already lost,” he mumbles into the darkness as he finally, finally goes to sleep.Bookmarked by Porcelani
