The entity wouldn’t hurt Edwin, he tells himself, and he knows it’s true, it’s just that it is so powerful that even the slightest touch is terrifying and Charles is terrified about losing Edwin all the time anyway.
“Why me?”, Edwin asks, head raised high and the entity’s light reflecting off his skin in a way that makes it look like porcelain, fragile and translucent and beautiful, “Why not Charles?”
There is nothing we could offer Charles Rowland to take his pain away, the entity says and its voice rings out in Charles’ head. But you, we could erase yours. If you wish us to.
Edwin gets the opportunity to go back in time and change his life so he will never have to go to Hell, but price of it is losing Charles; Charles can only stand next to him and wait for his decision.

Buck pulls off onto a tiny road, and then into the driveway of a wooden cabin, the forest behind it and views of the lake down below from the front. There’s more snow up here, dusting the pine trees and even the ground below them, the cabin’s roof and surroundings with a thin layer of white.
“This is amazing,” Eddie says as he gets out of the car, turning away from the cabin to take in the view. “How early did you book this?”
“I know a guy,” Buck says with a cheesy wink that kind of makes Eddie’s stomach flutter.
Christopher’s already halfway to the cabin, calling impatiently over his shoulder, “Come on, slowpokes! I wanna see inside!”

"I'm actually flying to an audition right now. Hopefully to be part of the movie for the book." Eddie says and then frowns. "Oh shit, I don't know if I should've told you that."
"It's okay." He leans forward and grins, squinting one of his eyes and shrugging. "Your secret's safe with me.'or; Buck's a best seller author under a pen name, Eddie is an actor auditioning for the movie adaptation of his books, and somewhere along the way, they fall in love.

It's a pretty graceless confession but last Eddie checked it was 87° and, as a reminder, 3:46 in the goddamn morning. Whenever he'd occasionally let himself imagine this moment it had been a lot sweeter, maybe candles, maybe flowers, a big emotional recounting of exactly how much Buck means to him and how much his life has changed for the better because he's in it, but Eddie really thinks he should be cut some slack given the circumstances.
