Dennis watches Andrew’s throat move, knuckles turning white as they curl around the edge of the table. “Why wasn’t I called?”
For all Dennis isn’t scared of Andrew, he knows exactly what to say to make him feel as if he’s getting punished anyway. He looks away, stupidly enough.
Andrew curls a hand around his chin, shaking it ever so lightly. “Eyes on me.”
Dennis’ eyes find him immediately. “And risk you setting the building on fire?”
The corner of Andrew’s lip twitches, but there is nothing humorous about it. “Not with you in it.”

His new Papa’s name is Andrew David Cody according to the crumpled adoption papers that have been abandoned on the floorboards; the papers that declare that his new name is Dennis Simon Cody. His new Papa hadn’t smiled at the name change, instead dropping one of those large, scarred hands over his curls and planting a small kiss on Denny’s head, keeping his back straight.
Or: Denny had been five when he had landed in the arms of a foster dad out in Southern California. He had been six when someone had stolen him right out of Andrew’s arms and dropped him off in the middle of Broken Bone.

Summary
“Sometimes it’s just—” Dennis starts, then shakes his head. He’s choking again, his voice shattering underneath every word as he manages to force out, “Sometimes it’s just— too much—”
His breath halts him, strains him once more, and he’s trembling as he burrows into Robby’s chest again, Jack blanketing him from behind. The throbbing of Robby’s heart underneath his ear drowns out everything else, helping Dennis focus on this and only this— on them and only them.
“I know,” Jack quiets him. “It’s okay.” When he presses a kiss to the nape of his neck, Dennis tightens his grip on him, too, knuckles whitening, pulling him in closer against him. “You’re okay.”
or: dennis wakes up in the middle of the night, and his brain won't let him go back to sleep. robby and jack help.

Dennis shook his head against Robby's chest, his tears still streaming, staining Robby’s scrubs as he did so.
“No - no, please, i can go home - let me go home-.”
Robby tight end his hold, restraining Dennis’ harming hands as he brought them up to hit himself in the head again, anchoring Dennis.
”Dennis, sweetheart..” he murmured, “You don't have a home to go to.”
”I do...” He voice came out small and weak, as if he was pleading the lie to turn to truth, “I promise, I-“
Robby’s heart cracked as he soothed their boy.
“It’s alright, motek. You don’t have to pretend.”

Summary
He always looks nervous. Less so than he used to, definitely, but there is nothing Whitaker’s growing professional confidence can do for his face. He just looks like someone who is about to faint dead away with anxiety at all times, eyes huge and hair waving timidly over his pale forehead. When he smiles, he looks almost… he looks different, but he’s not smiling now. He’s staring at Robby as though he thinks one of them is about to explode.

Summary
Dennis is just trying to catch his breath in the ambulance bay. They're caught up on the morning nursing home rush as much as they can be and it's only about noon. For a half second, he thinks Dr. Abbott is stumbling towards him, covered in blood. He only notices when he's nearly in front of Abbott’s doppelganger that he's wearing shorts and there's a flesh and bone leg where his prosthetic should be.
“Hey, you look like you could use some help,” Dennis says, reaching out to offer his arm but not touching him. “I'm Dr. Whitaker.”

Summary
Dennis had cut too deep. He didn't know why he even did it, nothing hugely horrific happened.
He needed to get medical attention, he couldn't go to PTMC though. The staff were basically family, and him being hurt would spread like wildfire.
That's how he found himself walking to a different hospital, even if it took hours more than the singular hour it would be to PTMC. What he didn't expect was to see a familiar face, even basically all the way across town.

"Dennis," he said in almost a growl. Dennis tensed his shoulders at the firm voice behind him. He knew he wouldn't be able to avoid this interrogation much longer.
Still completely silent, Dennis allowed himself to be manipulated by the other man's grip, which forced him to turn on his own feet, and although he tried to avoid it at all costs, he came face to face with Andrew's sharp gaze for the first time all morning."Who did this to you?" he insisted firmly as he sought his gaze and once again held Dennis's wrists under his hands, simply letting them fall over his outstretched fingers, avoiding using a more intense grip.
Or: Andrew notices Dennis's wrists covered in bruises, it turns out, they are his own doing. What he doesn't know yet is that his boyfriend is more than happy with it, he might even have a solution to fix this little incident!

Summary
Dennis Whitaker knew he was born with two soul marks. He did not have any further information. It was rather normal where he grew up to consider burning a soul mark off of an infant if said soul mark had the chance of leading the child to sin. From what his parents said, he had a double whammy of a problem, his soul marks were gay and they were marks, plural. However, everyone in the hospital had questions about soul marks and what was known. Eventually, he snaps and tells everyone how they were burned off of him as a child and how he has no hope of ever finding them.
Robby is confronted by the fact his and Jack's triad soulmate hadn't been avoiding them this whole time, instead he never knew that his name was written across both of their bodies. Now, he has to try to convince his soulmate to come home with him so Jack can also know about their soulmate.
Jack was not prepared for Robby to ride home with the soulmate they have been extremely slowly courting. This was not discussed beforehand, and he was definitely freaking out. Nothing could have prepared him for the reason his husband had brought home their third like this though.

Jack blinked…and then managed to coherently say, “You…you’re on night shift? Since when?”Whitaker looked up at him with those wide, bluer-beyond-blue eyes of his and quipped, “As of right now, it looks like. I mean, I got the shift change notification a little over a week ago. They gave me the last six days off to adjust my sleep schedule, and now I’m here…” His voice trailed off a bit as he stood and adjusted his scrubs, which looked to be slightly big on him.
“…that’s not gonna be a problem, is it? …Dr. Abbot?”
(aka the fic where Robby lends Jack his favorite intern for the night shift when it becomes obvious that Jack needs some stress relief...but it turns into something that Jack never expected)

Summary
When a twelve year old child is brought into the Pitt beaten within an inch of her life, it becomes a desperate attempt to locate the parents of the child, only to learn from the child that he’s in fact a trans child who goes by Dennis, they learn that his parents sent him to a conversion camp because of his “condition” and that he’s no longer welcome in their home nor do they care what happens to the child anymore. Jack and Michael decide to foster then adopt the boy.

Dennis appreciated the new life he had begun to cultivate. The city life fast and loud around him that was so different to the farm he grew up on. Trinity’s steady no nonsense lifestyle ever since he moved in; his meager belongings a reminder of the situation he had been in. But most of all the Pitt itself. The chaotic flow of patients, the ever bustling sound of machines, the movement, the ability to just move without needing to stop and question every movement because the ever present eyes on him.
Dennis gets grabbed by Abbot after shift for a night ED case and has old memories surface. It’s a good thing he’s there to look after his boy.
