    Summary

Andrew always said whatever this was between them was nothing, so really Neil shouldn't be so-- surprised, by what he walked in on. Andrew and Roland. Neil always knew this was nothing and that's perfectly fine. He's fine.

    --------

Andrew is self-destructive and fucks up. Neil spirals (but refuses to admit it). They are horrible at communicating.

I hate the cheating trope but this isn't technically cheating because they never talked about what they are... lots of angst

    Summary

It doesn't make sense. Neil was fine. More than fine. He’s safe at home with Andrew, and this should be the best possible ending to one of Neil’s best days, but when Neil squeezes his eyes shut, all he can see is —

Riko grinning with vicious pleasure as he slices Neil open. Riko’s eyes reflecting the glow of the lighter licking Neil’s skin. Riko laughing as a tattoo gun needle digs into Neil’s cheek.

Riko, Riko, Riko, smothering and impossible to escape. Panic knifes through Neil as he yanks uselessly against the handcuffs. No, no, no —

And then he’s saying it aloud, “No, no, no,” because there isn't a gag cutting into the sides of his mouth. Because Neil isn’t at Evermore. He’s at home with Andrew, who’s right there when Neil opens his eyes — only near the foot of the bed now, not touching Neil at all.

Neil has long gotten used to reading the faint shades of emotion that pass for expressions on Andrew’s face. But never, not even in Andrew's medicated, manically expressive days, has Neil seen Andrew wear anything like his current look of horrified shock.

Neil agrees to try the handcuffs in bed. It goes badly. Cue angst and h/c.

    Summary

    “Is this Ronan Lynch?”

Ronan’s mood plummets ten stories at the audacity of this stranger to not be Adam Parrish. “Yeah?” he says impatiently. “Who the fuck is this?”

“I’m calling from Cambridge General Hospital. You were listed as Adam Parrish’s emergency contact. We’ve been trying to get ahold of you for several days now.”

(At the end of Mister Impossible, the dreams all fell asleep and Adam scryed too far. The dreams wake up. Adam doesn’t.)

“Parrish? Fuck are you doing here? I thought you were dead in a ditch.”
    “Sorry. Can…can I come in?”

Adam misses school. That’s the first sign something is wrong.

    Summary

“Better the devil you know than the devil you don’t” — [idiom] meaning it is better to endure a difficult person or situation one is familiar with, even if it is painful, than to take a risk with an unknown person or thing.

Ethan is still speaking—yelling—and Adam is—he’s a little nauseous. Part of him doesn’t want to be a part of this conversation at all, and a more traitorous part of him wants to call her back, but Ethan still has his cell phone.

Adam thinks, isn’t this how everything went long last time? Adam hid paycheck stubs from his parents and got caught in his own web of lies. Now he’s lied to Ethan and he has been caught for that as well. He never learns. He always makes the same mistakes.

Adam dampens his lips and chooses his next words carefully. “I don’t understand why you’re angry.”
