Summary
After an unfortunate encounter forces Anthony and Penelope to get engaged, Penelope is invited to spend time with the family at Aubrey Hall to learn how to be a Viscountess, and to get to know her soon-to-be husband. Things get off to an awkward start, with each blaming themself for the forced engagement. They struggle finding common ground, anything to build a life on.
Out of desperation, Penelope challenges Anthony to read one of her favorite novels: The Mysteries of Udolpho. To her great surprise, he does. And he has thoughts. This opens the door to a new understanding between them. One that will force them to see each other through new eyes.

Gilbert Blythe is not exactly a take-notice kind of guy.
Which, of course, doesn’t mean he doesn’t take notice, he just keeps it to himself. He likes details, and he loves to keep them pressed onto his mind and heart, for himself only to appreciate. For instance, he adores the way hands are made precisely to intertwine, or the way sunflowers turn towards the sun by themselves, or also the way snowflakes are so undeniably perfect, or the way Anne’s freckles are scattered exactly like little stars, not one of them being out of place.
He notices it all.

Instead of adding Bash to his property title, Gilbert in a bit of a life-crisis mode bequeaths the entirety of the farm to his brother figure, effectively making himself homeless. Luckily, there is a local family who takes boarders, and it’s no trouble on the Cuthberts seeing how fond Marilla was of his father in their youth, so he finds comfort in asking her to take him in.
The only downside is sharing a residence with his academic rival of over 5 years, the ever confusing and infuriating Anne Shirley-Cuthbert, and as they come of age things get… complicated.
(A somewhat re-imagination of season 3, as the divergence would take place the final episode of season 2. Many aspects of season 3 will remain. But mostly slightly aged up AU, in-canon world)
