"Yes," Yuu gasped, gripping harder than ever now and refusing to let go or even blink for a moment, too scared that Mika would disappear before his eyes once more. "Please, stay. Don't leave me. Don't leave me alone, Mika."
"Shh," The demon shushed, leaning closer and smiling softly. "How pitiful you are...so desperate for my affection...though, I suppose that's a bit hypocritical of me. I don't know why, but..." He nuzzled Yuu's cheek and the raven let out a sob that made Mika grimace for some reason. "I want to...I want your affection too...I want /you/, Yuuichiro."
Yuu suddenly cried out again and shook his head vigorously, causing Mika to blink in confusion.
"No, no, no," Yuu wailed. "Not Yuuichiro. Yuu-chan, always Yuu-chan to you. Please, no."

“You’re not just anyone!” Wujiu threw the cloth into the bucket, seizing Bi’an by the shoulders.
“You say that out of blind obligation,” Bi’an said through gritted teeth. He swatted Wujiu’s hands off of him.
“You’re the most important person to me, someone I can never leave alone!”
“Sooner or later, I will have gone ahead of you!” Bi’an snapped. “How will you deal with yourself when I die?”
An unreadable expression crossed Wujiu’s face for a split moment, his pupils shrinking like needles, before he said pensively, “I don’t know.”

Summary
Everyone at the manor has been promised something beyond their means. For Norton, just about everything is beyond his means, so he feels he has nothing to lose when his invite to the manor offers additional compensation if he’s willing to be a gun-for-hire.
Anguishing in the dullness of manor life as he awaits his signal to kill, Norton crosses paths with Luca, whose insatiable curiosity about the manor’s secrets opens new doors that—if nothing else—are at least exciting.
As their goals overlap and occasionally conflict, the two of them struggle to maintain a separation between their work and their feelings while contending with discoveries that challenge their notions of themselves, each other, and reality itself.

The manor burns down. Orpheus, to the best of Norton’s, Plinius’, and Miss DeRoss’ knowledge, is caught up in it. Norton is wildly, exceedingly lucky he is not.
It’s the second or third time it’s burned down, apparently. It’s hard to keep up with what Miss DeRoss is saying, and with his head swimming from the blood loss it all kind of washes over him anyways. He leans heavily on both the women’s shoulders, barely managing to keep his feet under him. Distantly, he feels bad about it—both Plinius and Miss DeRoss are smaller than him, and he’s always weighed nearly fifteen stone even when he was starving. There’s blood dripping off of all three of them. He’s not sure what’s theirs and what’s his.
He’s also not sure why they pulled him out of the dirt. He’s not sure why they bothered. Wouldn’t it make more sense for them to just save themselves? It’s what he would have done, in their place. It’s what he thought Plinius would have done.
For Miss DeRoss, it’s hard to say.
It takes a year to pick up the pieces and start to heal.
