Tears fell from her eyes as she watched the sunrise in tranquility, disconnected from life and death. The wind of Aetherius whistled past her ears like the screams of the damned and a chorus of cheers. Neither comforted her as she closed her eyes to focus on the knot in her stomach that expanded outward, signalling her return to the corporeal world.A hand grasped hers, sending a shock wave of warmth throughout her body and anchoring her for a moment longer. The heat, like the summer sun, came with an overwhelming feeling of familiarity. She forced her eyes to stay closed as tears streamed uncontrollably, squeezing the hand in hers. Through any lifetime, any plane of existence, she would always recognise the feeling of his hand in hers.
“Martin…” Her voice was little more than a prayer through quivering lips. She was terrified to open her eyes in case it wasn’t real. If she turned for an embrace and there was nothing but air. She would stay here for eternity if that only meant she could hold his hand once more.
