Summary
There was only so long he was willing to wait.
The first few months he had been biding his time, regaining his strength after thousands of years of imprisonment, his body withered and decrepit from the passage of time. With his tendrils reaching throughout the depths, he siphoned off the energy needed from Hyrule itself, gaining some satisfaction at the idea that the kingdom would fuel its own downfall once he was back to full strength.
The thing was, Rauru’s swordsman had not come to challenge him.

A few years back you might have questioned the wisdom of moving into a building with a nest of deathclaws right next door. Things as they are now, though- you can't exactly be picky, when you've managed to piss off a bunch of drugged-up raiders.
Your ma made sure to teach you the two most important tenants of life in the Commonwealth- don't trust anyone, and don't fuck with things covered in lots of spikes. Problem is, that seems to describe every asshole you meet, creature and human alike. It was only a matter of time before you managed to get into trouble of the pointy variety, and ma not even cold in her grave.
Well, ain't like she's around anymore to tell you off for it. You gotta take your mistakes and make 'em work for you, or you're not gonna be around much longer to make more.
That's where the deathclaws come in.

The branches tucked underneath his arm, and the axe he'd been gripping in his other hand fell into the snow with a soft clatter, and the wolf lunges at him.
He'd expected to feel pain. He was ready to embrace death.
Instead, the wolf hits the ground before it can reach him, its head severed from its body. Blood seeped into the snow, and Cloud could only stare at the animal in silent shock. Then, his gaze flickered up, catching the glint of a blade. One that he could recognize anywhere because of his stupid obsession when he was a kid.
"…Masamune?" He mumbles.
or, cloud's dream of joining solider gets thrown away when his mother falls ill. for some reason, a dead man has come back to life to help him grieve.

"Yes," Sephiroth said. His voice hadn't changed either, the same low tenor that seeped into Cloud's blood like the onset of a fever: cloying, familiar, and wrong. "It didn't take."
