Summary
Spencer was in his apartment, crouching on the cold bathroom floor. He finally managed to stop using Dilaudid around a week ago. He could probably name an exact amount of hours if he wasn’t currently twitching in pain, nauseous and his head spinning. For the first couple of days, it was bearable, just a bit of a headache and a crawling, he could manage it if he wanted to get over his addiction. Then, there was insomnia, temperature swings and the muscle ache.

Summary
Aaron felt the heat of pure, cold indignation simmering beneath his skin. It was deliberate. The man was baiting him, looking for the flash of protective anger, the moment where the Unit Chief would break character and show the lover beneath.
“Dr. Reid is one of the most thorough and articulate agents in this building,” Aaron said, his voice quiet, steady, and utterly devoid of anything other than calm professionalism. “His work requires no editing. It requires only an appreciation for the nuance he provides. If you find his reports ‘verbose,’ perhaps it is a limitation of the reader, not the writer.”
The man let out a sharp, mocking chuckle. “A bit defensive, aren’t we? It's a simple observation regarding Agent Reid’s performance metrics.”
Aaron watched him, his gaze heavy and unyielding. He didn’t rise to the jab. He didn’t shift his posture. He remained a statue of bureaucratic compliance, even as every fiber of his being wanted to reach across the desk and force the man to acknowledge the title he was so pointedly omitting.

Spencer leaned his forehead against Aaron’s shoulder, a breathless laugh escaping him. “God, you’re insufferable.”
“And you,” Aaron countered, pulling back just enough to look at him with a gaze that made Spencer feel entirely seen, “Are going to be the death of me.”
They stood there for a beat longer than necessary, the domestic bliss of a Thursday night in a quiet house settling over them like a blanket. It was a fleeting, perfect moment of ‘us,’ and as Spencer turned back to the cutting board, the ring on his finger - the fake one, the prop, the shield - felt less like a piece of jewelry and more like a promise he wasn’t entirely sure he wanted to break.

“Let’s dial things up now,” Hotch’s smile was small, barely there, but it reached his eyes. “Tomorrow evening, at the precinct, I’m not going to bother sitting on the opposite side of the table during the briefing.”
Reid felt a flush creep up his neck, a thrill that had nothing to do with the case and everything to do with the man holding him. “The team is going to be incredibly confused,” he noted, though he was already leaning into Hotch’s touch.
“Let them be,” Hotch murmured, pulling Reid just a bit closer until space between them was non-existent. “It’s about time they start paying attention.”
