Jayce crouches down to his level, reaching instinctively for the jagged skin before stopping short.
“You—” he can barely process the idea of it, let alone the reality. “You punched him.”
“Yes.” Viktor flexes his hand. “He deserved it.”
Jayce snorts, helpless. “You’ve got a mean right hook. Since when?”
"Since Zaun."
Or: Jayce is fragile, and Viktor is astute; he is also alarmingly good at breaking noses in defense of his new academic associate.

“I’m so sorry,” he says again. He clamps a hand over his mouth. “But I…ah. Think I am going to throw up.”
Jayce scrambles back.
“What?!”
Viktor makes a strangled sound, gag reflex taking over. Jayce lunges for…things. Trash can, hoodie. His own cupped hands, apparently.
But before he can even find the side of the bed, Viktor politely gathers the duvet out of the way, folds in half, and vomits all over it anyway.
There's a stretch of profound silence. Then Jayce says, very intelligently: “Okay.”

Or: Jayce assumes the most complicated part about hooking up with Viktor will be the morning after. He’s right but also so, so wrong.

“The battle’s already lost,” he announces. “Mel’s approved my time-off ages ago. I got all the goodies,” he rattles the brown bag invitingly, “and Sky’s manning the lab. You’re not getting out of it, V.”
“Out of what?” Viktor demands, in increasing malaise, clutching at his crutch like a lifeline.
“Of fun,” Jayce says, threateningly.
