Summary
Like sleep, like death, you will wake again.
Five Pebbles does not often dream. Iterators only need to sleep when they enter maintenance mode, and Pebbles was built for a world without the Ancients. His systems will last for eons without adverse intervention, and he will watch as the world is eaten away and the land rises upwards. Because of this, he does not often need to maintain his systems, and he does not often dream.
But he dreams now, and his dreams carry whispers, half remembered fragments of a time he hasn't lived yet, and sorrow for mistakes he hasn't made. As he slowly starts to recall who he was and will be, the cycle turns, and the wheel flower grows in the empty spaces, where second chances come to bloom.

To ascend is to find oneself untethered to this world and its attachments.
Why then do the Iterators, beings designed to seek means of ascendance for all creatures, find themselves tethered in both body and mind?Long after the Ancients are gone, the Iterators are left with only each other and their lonely, desolate cans. With one small change, their Cycles will spiral off into a new future where they may yet be freed from the burdens their creators left them with. Some will abandon their purpose, abandon the ideas that formed them, and seek a new purpose in the world left to them. While others will seek out companionship, family, and the freedom that has long be denied to them.

Now with memories of freezing cold and information on how to not only fix the rot, but also fix Moon as well, he promised himself he would do whatever he could to never have to relive this awful cold all alone.
The isolation, cold, pain, and hundreds of thousands of cycles worth of thinking made him dead set on never going through that ever again. Even if that meant ripping off his umbilical before that could ever happen.In the meantime... The rest of the local group is confused. After all, the Pebbles they knew was a pretensious jerk who killed Moon then cut all communications, but the one that came back to them was a paranoid mess who seemed to space out every few minutes.
