Roy only wished his mind could adept to this quietude as well, but instead, it decided to work as much as the nurses that cared for them. The fact is that he barely had any moment to process everything that happened the last few months, and now it all came fast and crashed into his head due to the inertia, like a car braking abruptly.

When they turned left onto the street that would lead them to the park, Hayate noticed his favourite human's heartbeat quickening. His ears perked up, and for a brief second he wondered whether danger was approaching and he had missed something. But a quick glance up reassured him that her excitement was positive—she was brushing her hair into place, her grip on his leash relaxed as she slowed her pace, her eyes scanning their surroundings in an almost shy way.
Oh, right. In all the excitement, he had almost forgotten about the coffee-smell man.
