The old television with the shattered screen (its lightless countenance too mirror-like for her liking) comes to life with no source to speak of, from its place atop the bookshelf.

"Thin Man," the Lady intones. "You are not welcome here."

"Hello, my lady," says the Thin Man, his voice as dry and raspy as static. "That time of year again, is it?"

The idea itself is so captivating and I love how Caine is written with his codes and need for human happiness as validation for his own existence. I love every single little detail that is put into this fic! My favorite part is “Before he snapped his fingers to teleport himself into the white room, he checked the system’s antivirus program, making sure he would not crash from the overwhelming wave of the user’s agony because it adds SO much detail and extra depth to Caine and how he was made. I’ll be thinking about this one. And another quote that I find interesting is “it was that for Kinger to exist, he had to feel happiness.” because the only thing separating Kinger from abstraction is happiness to Caine, and since Caine’s purpose is to serve, if Kinger isn’t happy then Caine doesn’t fulfill his purpose and is essentially worthless. The complexities of the importance of Kinger being happy is wonderful because if he isn’t, then it ends terribly for both Caine and Kinger. Abstraction for Kinger, and the unthinkable absence in the circus for Caine. I also love the parallel of God and how he made the world in seven days and also Kinger being viewed as a patient “Pain had no place in the circus, and Kinger, who could feel nothing but pain, was the circus’s patient.” This line is also wonderful. And I love the description of the euphoria that Kinger feels from being free to the point of disregarding everything else he went through despite knowing it’s fleeting. And I also love the detail of Caine being the symbol of freedom when he arrives who is also the first color that Kinger sees. This fic just goes so in depth especially for Caine and I love it, the whole concept is so so intriguing to me and I’m definitely rereading this lots for more details and understanding
