Summary
Being the son of a General, Nicholas wasn’t prone to religion or the idea of an almighty being pulling the strings of everybody’s fates. Yet, for a faith that was bound to stay dim, it all changed the instant he saw the cause of his night terrors being taken away by a force that couldn’t be named anything but divine, despite its seemingly humanly childish shape covered in blood.
Behind the red stains on his vision, a memory stayed frozen right up to the moment those rounded eyes found its way into his life again, walking in his direction, this time wearing the same military attire he wore in a much taller figure that wasn’t as bulked up as his own, gracefully demanding respect in a different way.
As he sat there, taking in the familiar stare, he couldn’t shake off the idea that, if he had ever learned his savior’s name, it would probably be close to EJ’s.
Or: Nicholas thinks EJ might be his mother’s killer.

Summary
Nicholas has always been the type of person to say the wrong thing at full volume and get away with it without consequences, to do and act as he pleases without having to worry about the opinions of others. At Haesung Academy, Nicholas and Yuma have spent several years treating the school like a long-running social experiment in how much they can get away with, and the answer has always been the same: quite a lot. Then, a transfer student arrives mid-semester and causes a rift in the social climate they've worked so hard to maintain: EJ is warm, easy-going, and already laughing with people he met only thirty seconds before. He's also aware of exactly what type of game Nicholas is playing, whether he realizes it or not, and has decided not to feed into it.
Nicholas has never been ignored before. It turns out he doesn't know what to do about it.
