After realizing they’d spoken at the same time, they laughed, nervously.
“Playing this character, I guess it’s making me bolder than I’d normally be,” Yuuri croaked, and Viktor’s heart began to ache at what had been left unspoken: ‘bolder, like I wish I could be’.
The sudden vulnerability had him feeling off-kilter and just like before, his mouth got ahead of itself, asking questions that Viktor would only realize, later, he’d always been a bit too scared to allow himself to think about.
“Would it be so bad, if I wanted “Lee” to do that?” Viktor asked, deliberately using Yuuri’s alias. “To treat me like a slut and…and to degrade me?”
Viktor whispered the final two words like they were forbidden, hoping his husband could hear the questions he hadn’t yet articulated: “Is it ok for me to want this?” “Would it change the way you look at me?”

“I’m a public figure, Yuuri. It comes with the territory,” Viktor replied, in a blithe sort of way that set Yuuri’s teeth on edge.
All of a sudden, he remembered the comment Viktor had made to him and Yuri when he’d first assigned them the Agape and Eros choreography: I’m surprised you think you can choose your own image.
At the time, Yuuri hadn’t internalized what Viktor had said, too annoyed by the subsequent comment that he was merely a piglet in the audience’s eyes. But now, the unfairness of it struck him, anew.
How was Yuuri supposed to reconcile that attitude with the Viktor that had bounced around Minako’s karaoke stage, wearing a dorky, heart-shaped smile while serenading him?
There had been nothing suave about the performance Yuuri had seen tonight, and yet he had felt as fierce a love for that Viktor as he felt for the Viktor he’d seen win multiple World Championship titles.
Maybe even more love, actually.

I get such secondhand embarrassment sometimes by the things I read in this subreddit. Most notably: the use of the word “botched” when it comes to Yuuri and Sochi. I think I may be driven to commit homicide if I see yet another person talk about last night’s livestream “scandal” with some throwaway comment like “oh, no wonder Yuuri got trashed at the banquet, he’d just completely botched his chance to impress Viktor”. Listen here, you shriveled rutabagas!!! YUURI DIDN’T ‘BOTCH’ ANYTHING, NOT THEN AND NOT EVER!!
I’m sorry to have to bring root vegetables into this, but have these people just been ignoring all of Viktor’s interviews these last 3 years?!

“Every time you point out a building you think you can recognize, it makes me feel like I’m seeing my hometown through new eyes,” Yuuri said, sounding shy. “The city’s been offering hot air balloon rides since well before I was born, and I guess I took it for granted as something only brand new tourists would get anything out of. But now that we’re up here and I can see how excited you are by it all even after being here for a few months…it feels like a reminder to appreciate what’s in front of me.”
A loaded silence stretched out between them and Viktor could only blink a few times in astonishment as he tried his best to catalogue what such heartfelt words brought up for him.
In the moment, he was stunned at how relieved the admission made him feel; he knew, instinctively, that Yuuri had been enjoying himself during this outing, but even so, it soothed a deep-seated ache within him that wondered if his “oohing” and “aahing” over every little thing he could see was getting annoying.

And…oh.
Crying was still a new enough thing for Viktor that he often didn’t even realize it was happening, but this was not one of those times; tears of joy and overwhelm and sheer relief dripped steadily down his cheeks, and he grounded himself in the sensation.
Before he could even think about wiping them away, Yuuri whipped out his favorite Makka-printed handkerchief, put it into Viktor’s hand and mechanically brought his arm up to his face.

This made me ACHE but in such a good way. Poor Viktor 😭 The wedding depiction is beautifully done and the ending is so satisfying
One of my favorite parts:
Viktor,” he says. “Vitya. Trust me.”
And Viktor does. He trusts Yuuri with his life. It’s why he’s here, at this small town rink in this small piece of nowhere in Japan. It’s why he has friends and a new family and a two rings on his finger. It’s why every moment on the ice he’s had since they met felt more like flying than ever before. It’s why he sits at this moonlight rink, the scent of cherry blossoms in his nose and dog hair on his fancy trousers.
If he hadn’t been putting all his trust in Yuuri Katsuki for the last two and a half years of his life, he would have fifty gold medals and an empty, echoing apartment. He would have endless ambition and nowhere left to go. He would not have a home.

One of the best takes I’ve seen on what might have occurred if they’d met much earlier; with the language barrier the number of misunderstandings and assumptions felt so realistic. As always, my heart especially ached for Viktor so the resolution felt especially sweet with him being reassured that Yuuri does indeed love him just as much as Viktor loves him

Goddamn this wrecked me, I apparently love torturing myself via Viktor’s insecurity and depression 😭
Especially striking:
“Yuuri,” he says, as neutrally as he can manage (he’s sure it comes out quite plaintively). “What is it you want from me?”
Yuuri’s eyes meet his knowingly — far more knowledgable than dream Victor ever could have allowed. “I just want you to be you.”
Victor huffs a laugh. “An echo.”
Yuuri raises his brow.
“You said that once,” Victor murmurs, but what he means is, you meant that once — before you knew the broken me.
