    In the midst of a years-long cold war between the Undersea kingdom of Natarus and the Oversea town of Sagedale, a young pirate meets an abandoned triton, bleeding and frightened.
    Two days later, the pirate feels his body hit the surface of the ocean. His lungs fill with water. He does not drown. The gills that open up on either side of his neck, and the inky black tail that grows from his hips, makes sure of that.
    From a hundred miles away, Gillion's father tries to rid the Tidestrider name from Gillion's blood, willing to tear apart the entire Oversea if it meant finding the abandoned chosen one.
