    Summary

Integral: necessary to make a whole complete; essential or fundamental.

Whistler is definitely not 'family adjacent', she's integral to it.

Time to break down some of the Whistler mystique, answering such questions the team hadn't (yet) realised they had, like how did she transfer to FBI so quickly? Why does she always know someone who can help? What does she do when not at NCIS? And, anticipating the first question, does Lucy know?

[Set a non-specific 'few' months after Lucy's return from the Ronald Reagan]

    Summary

So she was on her phone looking through potential replacements, and she turned to Lucy and asked, "What do you about these?"

Lucy looked up from her book, glanced at the turquoise pillows Kate had been considering, said, "They're nice," and went back to reading immediately.

"You sure?" Kate asked, something tickling at the back of her brain like a warning.  "You barely looked at them.  Did you want to see the coral ones?"

"Nah, I'm good," Lucy said, not looking up again.  "Whatever you pick is fine with me."

It starts with throw pillows, then a vegan restaurant, then Kate realizing she'd never taken Lucy to Rock n' Bowl. How small things can add up to a big problem, but also how potential disaster can be averted with communication. And bowling.
