Summary
They ate in silence for a few minutes. The first bite of his burrito was enough to drag Tim’s day back into an acceptable territory, even when Jason reached across and stole another chip, his own portion still untouched. His brother didn’t even blink when Tim returned the favor. He watched Jason wipe the corner of his mouth with the back of his hand, set his burrito down, and lean back against the seat.
“So… do y’all think dad’s gonna sue?”

Summary
Jonathan waited for a response that didn’t seem to come and, for a moment, wondered if he had done something wrong. Jordan stayed quiet, watching him, then frowned, far less discreetly than their mother ever would. When he finally seemed ready to speak, he stopped, hesitating, as if carefully weighing his next words.
“You’ll come to me, right? If there’s something wrong, I mean.”
He was messing everything up.
“…yeah. Yeah, sure. But you shouldn’t even have to worry about it, I’m fine.”

Summary
They were both crying.
Or rather, to be completely honest, Damian’s eyes were just watery, but Dick had no intention of admitting that he had given in to tears long before his little brother. The boy had crossed his arms over his chest, his lips curled in an involuntary pout and his nails, which he was made to keep short, scratching stubbornly against his skin. He knew he should scold him, correct that bad habit the kid had to put an end to, but he couldn’t help but think that one lesson was enough for that endless evening.

Summary
For the past few months, Lana had been putting off inviting Lois over for a girls’ night, with no children or partners to bother them. Whenever they met or spoke on the phone they did nothing but promise each other to make more concrete plans as soon as they were free, then something caught their attention, whether it was a current errand or their respective works, completely distracting them from their previous intentions. There was no malice, let alone disinterest, just two busy lives and increasingly looming priorities.
That evening, however, Lois was sitting on the Cushing’s sofa, discreetly but repetitively checking the screen of her smartphone, and Lana never wished more than at that moment for the opportunity to postpone their dinner to a later date.

Summary
Jonathan had never been particularly interested in alcohol, could never allow himself to be. He remembered being far from turning fourteen and being invited to a party by a schoolmate, only to find out when he arrived that most of those present were high school students. He remembered the plastic cup that he had been offered, a wink from the boy who had brought it to him and the pungent smell of alcohol to betray its content. He remembered the tiredness and loneliness of that time and he remembered thinking, as he swallowed the sour-tasting drink, that his parents would’ve never paid enough attention to him to realize what he had done. They realized it, of course.
