Monty had a well-loved Christmas jumper pulled over his white polo shirt instead of his blazer. It was undeniably homemade, made of green and red wool, likely one of the garments made by his grandmother that she’d packed for him. Most of the boys had started swapping out parts of their St. Churnley’s uniform for warmer bits and pieces ever since the 1st of December and the staff had given up with trying to enforce the dress code as the holidays drew closer.
“What day is it?”
“Tuesday.”
“No, I mean, uh, what’s the date.”
“Oh, the 9th I think.”
Edgar groaned. They had another 2 weeks of this – 3 if the festivities went on into the New Year and they likely would.
“Just wake me up in January.”

The boys don't go home for the holidays. It's a hard time of the year for them all, with Edgar mourning Poe, Monty worrying about the anniversary of the day he first transformed, Roland missing his family during their winter yule and Kevin grappling with the fear of an upcoming recital. Somehow they make it work.

AJ stared for too long, terrified to click on the video but unable to stop himself from considering doing just that. He chewed the tip of his thumb, wrestling with this indecision, and then gently tapped the screen, his eyes screwing shut instinctively as soon as he did.
A 30-second advert started playing, torturous to listen to although AJ wasn’t about to open his eyes to skip it. He dropped his phone onto his chest instead and tried to breathe normally – tried not to make this into a big thing.
He hadn’t heard Luke’s voice for two months.
It was never part of the plan, to be forced to adjust to a world that was only three quarters complete.
