They’ve done this numerous times before, back in flight school. Bucky cosied up to his side in bed, the scruff on his cheek scraping over Gale’s collarbone. It only happened when the nights were cold, and Bucky was sloshed.
Plausible deniability.
In what Gale does now, they would be hard-pressed to find deniability of any kind. Both of them eagerly ignore that Bucky is not drunk enough, and that the woefully public nature of their surroundings in no way resembles the safety of their shared room back in Texas.
Climbing into the cot, Gale tries to temper his rapidly beating heart. Bucky will find a way to snug close enough to plaster his ear to his chest. He will hear it, but won’t comment—skirting the line, never to cross it.
Or, Gale is jealous of Bucky's girls.

Damen has two wolves inside of him. One of them is in love with Laurent. The other one is also in love with Laurent, he just doesn't know it yet.
"They’ll always talk about you, D," Nikandros tells him, "for as long as you are who you are. Better they talk about your abysmal love life than go digging any deeper into what you do in your free time. That’s the whole point of this, remember?”
And Damen, fully chastened by now, sighs. He remembers. How could he not? His entire life had been pretending at something else or the other—pretending that he knew how to run his father’s billion dollar corporation, pretending that the only things he cared about were women, booze and loud cars.
Pretending that he could make a difference in this world, even if it was just by stopping one mugging at a time.
Sometimes he wasn’t sure there was any part of him that existed that wasn’t some sort of pretense or the other. If the tabloids dug down and tried to find out who was underneath Damianos Vallis, heir to the billion dollar Vallis Corporation, son to a dead father, brother to a murderous traitor—
All they would find are empty masks, all the way down.

“You’ll manage, Bucky,” Gale says before he can think better of it, and when John looks up at him with eyes wet and glistening, he wishes he could take it back. Maybe not just the cold, then.
“I’ll manage?” He sounds level at least, hot drunk but no different to normal. A little edge, a little rasp.
“Without ‘im. I know it’ll be—But you’ll manage.” John’s answering scoff has a meanness in it, and he does look down again, but thankfully he doesn’t stop walking.
“I’ll manage. Yeah, I’ll manage. I’ll manage without him, because I managed before, that right?”
“That’s right.” Gale’s murmuring again, and you don’t grow up in Wyoming without learning how to soothe a horse, and somehow that’s the voice he’s using right now. Tempted, even, to soothe like he would a horse: hand rubbed broad along John’s flank, cupping his neck like he’d cupped Gale in the pub, rubbing solid and firm. Might quiet those jitters, still jittering even though John’s trudging along with his sight on the ground, trying to sniff away his wet eyes.

Keith’s doing just fine, thanks. So maybe he dropped out of college and maybe he doesn’t have what one might call “direction” in his life, but so what? He’s got a job he doesn’t hate, he’s got enough friends for his liking, he’s got Shiro, he’s got climbing on the weekends, he’s got the hookups with closeted college boys every once in awhile, and he’s fine. Happy. He doesn’t need anything to change.
That is, until he almost accidentally gets into a bar fight with an infuriatingly attractive river guide and then starts seeing said river guide everywhere and it turns out he's less infuriating but still definitely attractive, and, well—maybe Keith hasn’t been doing that fine. Maybe one thing can change.
Or: Keith and Lance fall into hate and then into love in quick succession. Also, there’s truck sex.

“Oh my god,” Bucky says and he really has no business looking so shocked. “But you have- You’ve done it before, right?” He leans forward, eyes wide and bright.
Gale clenches his jaw, the embarrassment curling in his stomach.
Bucky’s mouth falls open. “Saint Gale Cleven,” he drawls, shaking his head. “She slapping your fingers black and blue every time you meet up?” He asks.

All humour dies in Gale’s throat as John begins to move. He changes position, tucking one arm beneath Gale’s neck, and with his other hand he pulls him closer by his waist. With John’s thigh still between his, Gale can feel the contours of his hips against his own. The thin layers of cotton pyjamas separating them are not enough.

Gale can’t look long, can’t maintain eye contact with that empty cavern of a hood for anything more than a second, or two. Something looks back out at him that he knows, from pure animal instinct, is not at all human. Or hasn’t been for a long time. It makes his ears ring, a pressure vibrating through his head that he fears allowing to grow too strong. He looks off to the left, at the thing’s shoulder, where the robe drapes, soft and gossamer and grey. Like ash-filled cobwebs.
Its neck cracks as it regards Gale silently.
