    After his Father decided that Jonathan Kent would be a good partner for him as Robin, Damian does not agree.
    In fact, he believes he really dislikes the Kent kid.
    The feeling appears to be mutual, but as they grow up and spend more and more time together, Damian starts to discover he doesn't dislike him, not exactly.
    Hell, teenager Damian Wayne might even like him a bit too much.
    Also: Jon teaching Damian how to be a normal kid while trying to not get murdered by that very same kid.
    Or: Jon fell first but Damian fell harder.

    “You should go back to sleep”, Mike mutters, but Will’s eyes are already flying over his face, and he is probably taking in the embarrassing number of tears, and the sweaty hair sticking onto his forehead and—

    “You’re bleeding”, Will whispers, and then, as if the realization strikes just now as he says it out loud, his voice increases in volume, but shakes harder all the more, “Mike, there’s— there’s blood pouring from your mouth.”

    Mike would have been perfectly content with never exploring the depth of his repressed feelings, if it wasn't for the deadly flowers blooming in his lungs.

    Just don't stare, and just act like everything is normal.

    Lance mustered up his most normal ‘I am totally not thinking of sweeping Keith off his feet just because he's a girl now’ face before he spoke as casually as possible.

    (His breath may have caught a little in his throat when he made eye contact with Keith, but it didn't happen as long as he didn't acknowledge it.)

    “So. Do you prefer to go by he/him or she/her now? Oh, but maybe you would prefer to go by my/mine?”

    …

    Not a muscle on Keith's face twitched.

    What the cheese.

    “What the fu-?” Keith had started to say, only to be cut off by Pidge deadpanning something along the lines of ‘that was painful to watch’ while Hunk defended Lance's honour with a sheepish ‘that's not his best line really’.

     

    or to secure an alliance, Keith ended up alternating between being a girl and a boy for some time. It was a change of perspective for a certain someone. (Why does it take seeing girl Keith for Lance to see just how beautiful Keith himself is?)

    additionally: my excuse to write Lance realising he’s down bad for Keith.

    The moment the grandfather clock slides back in place, Damian bends over to cough harshly into his elbow. He coughs and coughs, like he’s trying to hack up his lungs, and it’s like he can’t stop. He stumbles into the wall and tries to breathe, tries to smother the coughs being torn out of him.

    He finally forces himself to stop, but the itch in his chest is still there.

    Damian doesn’t care for it. He desperately tries to catch his breath. When his breathing goes back to normal, Damian pushes himself off the wall. His vision is blurry with unshed tears and his legs feel like they’re made of cotton.
