She couldn't stop thinking about her. Her smile, her stupid voice, the freckles on her cheeks. Nancy finally admitted it. She was in love with Robin. Robin Buckley. A girl. A girl who was in band and hung out with her little brother's friend.
She caught herself staring at Robin's lips in the photo, for the hundredth time that minute, and she didn't stop herself. They looked so plump and gorgeous, lightly pink with faint bite marks from Robin's teeth.
Nancy felt that same feeling in her stomach as the day they met outside the dance studio. The fluttering feeling, almost like butterflies.
Or, the one where Nancy does ballet and one day meets Robin outside of the dance studio. It follows them from February all the way to late November-December.

“You’re a fierce, independent young woman who’s in charge of her own life. Honey, I know,” Karen told her. “But…I also think that part of the reason you haven’t found a nice girl in Boston is because your interest has been about a hundred miles west all year.”
Nancy’s cheeks flushed pink instantly. “Wha–I don’t–I’m going to bed,” she fumbled out and stood up to leave.
“Nancy Elizabeth, don’t you dare try to tell me that you haven’t been head over heels for that girl for years.”

Summary
The air always seemed to change when they were alone together. Nancy couldn't place why. Maybe it was the lack of barrier the boys provided. Though she would have thought the lack of her ex in the room would ease the nerves in her stomach, not renew them. Or maybe it was having a girl friend for the first time since Barb causing her unease. Either way it filled the space between them like a physical presence.
