This argument had been going on for almost exactly fourteen days now. Ever since Shane and Ilya had decided to watch a movie on a rare night off. Ilya had ended up choosing Duck Butter, a movie that involves two young women making a pact to have sex every hour on the hour for an entire day. Ilya could barely hear Shane, too focused on his hand. “I will.”
“We'll both get what we want this way. Other than the Cup.”
Shane redirects his gaze again, and Ilya's breathing hard, trying his best to be normal right now. All Ilya wanted was to kiss those lips, not talk. He thought they were done with the talking.
“Tell me you understand.” Shane says.
“I understand.” Ilya manages to say. He wants to complain and be dramatic about how badly he needed Shane to make him come right now.
“Okay.” Shane says with a small smile.
“Nothing is funny, Shane.”
“It's very funny. How long have you been wanting this?”
“Stop talking.”
“How long, Ilya?”
“Every fucking night.”

Summary

These small intricacies of their love is what keeps Shane’s head above water. There’s only a hint of an ache when he hears Ilya’s name. Ilya kisses him and that ache is now more apparent. Ilya kisses him and he unravels. No one is to blame. It’s just the way these things go. But it wasn’t until that day in the locker room, when he heard the news, that he realized just how much he had to lose.
