Part of him always imagined Kendall would do that - after all, he had already tried once.

There was a tremble in Gerri's voice, the shining glint of tears covering her blue eyes. "I look at the baby and see my daughter, which means she isn't actually gone after all." Her breath hitched on an inhale, arms hugging around her middle, sadness so palpable that Roman felt it too, the splintering fragments of pain ripping Gerri open and laying her meek and bare.
"I know that there's nothing I can say or do to make this easier for you," he said slowly. It wasn't possible for him to stitch Gerri back together, he wasn't so foolish to believe otherwise. But maybe he could hold her upright, keep her safe and steady until the healing started on its own, the fragments fusing into the version of Gerri that would survive once the pain had faded and she could stand on her own again. "But I'd really like to hold you for a minute, if you're okay with that?"
Gerri's world is rocked by an unimaginable tragedy. Roman is there to see her through to the other side.

Roman has to get out of New York, away from her.
He’ll “eat, pray, love” his way around the world. Well, perhaps without the praying part. Roman stopped believing in a God long ago.
He salutes his final whisky to Gerri, his version of saying goodbye, putting them - whatever they were - in a neat little box at the back of his mind. Perhaps some of her filing cabinet tendencies had rubbed off on him - or at least he could hope so.
But Roman doesn’t leave her back in New York. It turns out putting an ocean between them only makes it worse.
