Summary
Astra lounges, sitting with her legs out and her arms propped behind her. She’s all long limbs and warm brown skin and blonde streaks catching in the moonlight. It’s just Behrad’s luck that the first woman he falls for is nearly six feet and a witch and pretty much the princess of Hell. He doesn’t know how to do things by half-measures, not when it comes to his feelings, at least. He likes a lot. Astra’s a lot.
Behrad knows he’s a lot, too. A bit of a hot mess. A burnout with maybe a minor reliance on weed, not that he’d ever say that, and a complicated relationship with his sister. And he’s sort of freaking out about how serious these feelings for Astra are becoming, but he’s fine. He’s self-medicating. He’s adrift and undead and figuring it out. He’d venture a guess that Astra feels that way, too.

Astra visits Behrad in his room after the party for his 25th and asks him to go out for a smoke with her. Maybe Behrad’s getting everything he wants for his birthday.

Summary
The music is loud and new. It’s trending something a little more aggressive than dad rock, which is a space that Trinity is apparently really thriving in, but Victoria’s more used to, like, women on the Top 40. She’s sure Trinity would give her so much shit for that. She sort of finds herself wanting to say something, to goad her. As easy as it is for Trinity to get under Victoria’s skin, the opposite is true, too.
Trinity’s dancing with Victoria, actually dancing with her, not next to her, the way she was with Mel. She’s not touchy, not really, but she’s drunk and a little clumsy, now, and sometimes, her hand knocks against Victoria’s side or shoulder.
It’s easy to dance with her, to her credit. Victoria’s not super familiar with this type of thing, doesn’t really know what she’s doing, but she can swing her hips and nod her head and let Trinity’s big, beautiful eyes carry her far away from here. She’s sweating and tripping over herself, drunk and happy, and she is going to get home past her curfew and nurse a hangover tomorrow and be twenty-one and normal and okay.

Summary
Astra isn’t entirely sure what possesses her to try and shut Spooner up with a kiss. It’s something about the way that Spooner looks, dappled by sunlight filtering down through the leaves of the trees, her hat cutting a sharp shadow across her face. Those eyes of hers, big and brown and beautiful, are peering out from underneath it. It’s something about this thing between them, this weird energy, the new kids, the outsiders, the witch and the almost-alien, whatever Spooner is. Astra’s an angry person; Spooner matches her, can meet her where she’s at. Small but mighty. Astra isn’t worried that she’ll be too much for her.

Astra kisses Spooner. It doesn’t have to mean anything. That’s what she tells herself, at least.

Eddie chokes, sitting upright, and looking over his shoulder at Hen, “No,” he says, voice gravelly. “Do not call Maddie.”
“Okay,” Hen says, frowning. “Why?”
He groans, turning back around and burying his face in his hands again. “Because Bucks probably already told her and there’s no doubt I’ve jumped to the top of her to be killed list.” He looks up. “Don’t tell me she doesn’t have a to be killed list, because I guarantee she does now.”
“Okay. What’s going on?”
He takes a deep breath, shaking his head. “I kissed Buck.”
