    “There is a war going on,” her father said. His voice sounded muffled, as if he were speaking to her from underwater. “Our enemies will come for you because you are her daughter, so you must be prepared to survive. You must live forever.”

    She slid from her chair and collapsed onto the ground.

    In a single, blurry instant, Byleth remembers how her father had hovered over her, his face a splotch of color she could hardly make out.

    “It will pass,” he breathed. His hand trembled through the locks of her hair. “Consuming merfolk flesh will do that to you. But when you wake up, you’ll be changed. They won’t be able to hurt you. You’ll be immortal.”

    Or, Byleth is an immortal sailor seeking a way to finally die. Ashe is a merman seeking a way to bring his sister back home. When Byleth catches Ashe, everything changes.
