Summary
For as long as Shane has been playing professional hockey, he has been studying Ilya Rozanov. It happened without him realizing. It's not like he sat down and put pen to paper, making notes of everything he knew about Ilya Rozanov. It's still unbelievable to him that he gets to see every version of him, all the parts of himself he doesn't show to the world that only wants to see him as a cocky player with a devil-may-care attitude. Shane counts himself lucky that he gets to see Ilya's soft side, his grumpiness when he doesn't get enough sleep, his sappy eyes when he wakes up beside Shane.
But there are some things about Ilya that Shane worries he will never know, that rest on the other side of some great gulf he cannot cross. Shane, who grew up untouched by the kind of tragedy that shaped the arc of Ilya's life, who sometimes feels overwhelmed at the depth of everything Ilya gave up for him, at the bravery it took for him to love Shane like it's the most natural thing in the world.
As he thinks about the future he wants with Ilya, Shane realizes he may need to better understand Ilya's past.

Summary
When Samira started her residency, people told her she would get used to the impact. Her body would grow accustomed to the long days on her feet, the sparse meals, the dehydration. Some days, she finds it's mostly true. She can push through a lot, can ignore a worrying amount of warnings from her body telling her to slow down. Her default now is some level of discomfort or pain, knots in her shoulders that no amount of massages she doesn't have time for anyway could undo.
But she puts up with it. She works through the pain, she ignores the rumble of hunger in her stomach, she charts until her vision goes blurry. Because at the end of the day, it's worth it. The hard work, the pain, the sacrifice, the loneliness that sneaks in when she goes home to her empty apartment—it's all worth it to be in the rush of the emergency department, to be the person helping someone on the worst day of their life and seeing them through to the other side. It's worth it.

Ilya didn't know family could be so easy. It surprised him a little at first how quickly Yuna and David seemed to accept him as part of Shane's life. Over the course of that first afternoon meeting, somewhere between standing awkwardly in their foyer and sitting down to eat pasta in the kitchen where Shane spent his childhood summers, they decided if Shane was all in on Ilya, they would be too. Once he moved to Ottawa, they only got closer, until it didn't feel strange at all to show up at their house without Shane, like Ilya was part of the family on his own standing outside of his connection to their son.

Summary
The first thing you should know about time loops is that they’re really fucking hard to break. The second thing is that you can never break one in such a way that it is incapable of returning.
The third thing you should know is that everyone around you has probably been stuck in a time loop at one point or another, and they made it out alive. This is only comforting if you’re a numbers guy, or if you’re the kind of guy who talks to others about how it feels to live the same day over and over and over and over and over and over again.
Shame if you’re not; the most important thing you should know about breaking a time loop is that it helps to tell someone you’re trapped in one in the first place.

Good riddance, he thinks. Or maybe feels obligated to think. He’s not sure. It feels like a natural thing to think about a brother who hit you and insulted you and extorted you for most of your short, miserable time together. He’s thought about it before, Alexei dying. The life he lived had not been conductive to longevity.
I am the last Rozanov, he thinks, and that is an emotion he can parse, finally: closure. Like setting the last piece down in a puzzle.
It’s only after the first puff of smoke escapes his lips that Ilya remembers Alexei’s daughter.

Sharing a locker room with Ilya was… challenging. They’d already agreed that it would be best–for everyone–to avoid being in the showers at the same time. That had been a no-brainer. Ilya and Shane were both entirely too handsy when it came to showers. Even the thought of Ilya standing under the hot spray was enough to make Shane’s mouth water. So, the risk was mitigated. Shane would steer clear of the communal showers until Ilya was done. Easy. Simple. No looking at a wet, naked Ilya in front of his peers.
Unfortunately, Ilya was hot no matter his state of dress. He was especially hot, right now, stood in the middle of the room with his Under Armour leggings clinging to his thighs, his shirt rucked up as he scratched his stomach and spoke casually with Carter Vaughn. Standing right in Shane’s line of sight. The asshole. He was probably doing it on purpose.
