The breakdown had been coming for days. He’d known something like it was on the horizon when he'd gotten to work Friday morning, put down his bag, and then found himself in the department kitchenette, four hours later with three pages of notes on the psychoanalysis of Hamlet he didn’t remember writing, a burn on his hand, and a mug of hot water, milk, and honey, but no tea bag. So, it was no big surprise that he found himself here, curled up against an air vent, trying to drag himself back into his body. Not a surprise, but still a disappointment.

Earth’s destruction was peaceful. Quiet. There one second and then gone the next, completely eradicated in the blink of an eye. Her family, her home, gone with no evidence, as if they never even existed. The Earth and all of its inhabitants disappear in the blink of an eye. They don’t even get the chance to put up a fight.
