Dad is 71, early stage Parkinson’s disease, broke his hip 6 weeks ago. No signs of cognitive decline; mostly needs help with household tasks (cooking, light cleaning, laundry, grocery shopping), getting dressed, showering, changing cat litter/general cat care, getting to and from appointments.
Please know what you are getting into; Dad is physically more or less in good health but awful at accepting his limitations, unnecessarily mean, generally uncooperative, and largely nocturnal. Imagine yourself caring for a feral raccoon that is convinced it’s going to write another book, then subtract everything that is cute about raccoons.

The next summer, Gon returns to search for Killua’s company. He finds him. And he continues to seek him out the next year, and the next, and the next.

There was this boy Killua couldn’t keep his eyes off of. His name was Gon. He had black spiky hair and he wore the exact same thing to class every day: the same green shirt, green pant, green shoe combination. He always had dirt smudged on his face, his shoes looked one strong kick away from tearing apart, and he was kind.
Which is why it was such a shock to see him looking through the dumpster, a hungry desperate look in his eye.

Killua struggles to correct things before they get out of hand, but it's difficult when Gon seems more than willing to go along for this ride of pampering, food, and fire dancing. After all, how is he to know that Killua has been in love with him for ten years, and that this very ritual might ruin things for good?!

That wasn’t something that eased Gon’s nerves in the slightest. "Yeah, you can ask me anything, Killua."
"I don’t want this to sound weird but," he trailed off as if he was unsure with his phrasing or if it would make sense. Then, with a sure finality he looked straight into Gon’s eyes, blue eyes piercing his, and asked, "who the hell are you?"
What was Gon supposed to say to that? Maybe he was worse at pretending to be his younger self than he thought.
(Or: One wish sends Gon's life back into a frenzy, giving him the chance to figure out how to prevent Killua from being murdered. As he flip flops between the past and the present, it becomes evidently clear that Killua's death wasn't so black and white.)

Until he meets Gon, a nature god who’s perplexing in every possible way. Until he meets Gon, who shows Killua that his power isn’t a curse, who brings him garlands of dried flowers and small pieces of chocolate, who awakens in Killua a warmth of which he’d thought himself completely incapable.
Until he meets Gon, and something begins to change.
