NOTE - I have the entire season plotted out, scene by scene, for a 10-episode arc. Will upload as and when I complete the full screenplay for each one (which I thought would be every couple of weeks, but isn't turning out that regular at all - sorry!).

Summary
When Liz finds out her boyfriend is messing with him she sends Jess off to Stars Hollow, telling Luke he's been getting into trouble and needs straightening out.
Even in the fictional version of this it's Jess's fault.
Stars Hollow is no sanctuary, not when Jess is expected to sleep a few feet from a man he barely knows. While scamming for a few safe minutes of sleep a day Jess steals from his classmates and works in the diner, building up a nest egg for the day he runs for good.

Rory huffed, smoothed her jeans and tank top, straightened her tiara, and knocked twice on the glass door.
"Closed," Jess shouted louder, this time pointing towards the sign above the door but again not looking up.
Now she was getting agitated. Cementing her resolve, she banged loudly on the door without stopping.
"Listen, buddy," he said tossing down his cleaning rag in frustration and whipping around. "I said we're cl – " he stopped short as he met her eyes.
A look crossed his face then that Rory, in her current state, couldn't identify. It lasted a mere moment before being replaced by his default, unemotive gaze. Grabbing a remote from the nearby counter, Jess lowered the volume of the music and walked towards her.
He held Rory's gaze as he unlocked and opened the door, stepping back to take in her regalia.
"Well, well," he said finally, his face unreadable. "The once and future queen returns."

Jess needs a safety net--as much as he loathes to admit it. The publishing house folds and Jess has no desire to live in his car again, so he calls on the most reliable person he knows. Luke is there with a place to stay, unsolicited advice, and possibly WiFi. More than enough for him to get the chance to drum up some cash.
The proximity of Luke's apartment to every other inch of Stars Hollow is a slight complicating factor.
