Summary
Ryland Grace and Adrian both have one thing in common: a love for Rocky. And both of them are desperate to return everything to the status quo.
In a fit of recklessness upon Rocky’s suggestion to become a throuple, Adrian decides to court the alien in the hopes that their mate will come to his senses and realize what a bad idea it is.
Meanwhile, Grace is trying to ignore the questionable feelings he has for his best friend and support Adrian in their mission.

I can’t go home yet; I don’t want to face Adrian’s gentle comfort; I don’t deserve it. I can’t do anything useful anymore. I did my job and saved the planet, and I guess that’s it. No more engineering for Rocky. Maybe I’ll pick up something else, a new career to fill my time if no one will utilize my painstakingly crafted talents in the engineering world anymore. No, I can’t even pretend. I love engineering, I love making things, working on things, making things better. I need a project to fill up my thoughts until nothing else fits. Why won’t they give me one?
Grace would give me one. He loves my inventions, praises me more than I can stand to hear. He wants my work still, right? I’m already halfway to the dome before I even realize it. It’s late for Grace, he might not even be awake, but I need to meet him. I need him.
or Grace settles into Erid life pretty easily. Rocky struggles to do the same.

Grace's journey to Erid is long and taxing. 4 whole years spent on the Hail Mary by Rocky's side has inevitably brought them closer together, despite the last year mostly consisting of Grace trying his very best not to die and keep himself from throwing up taumoeba into the bathroom. It’s only after his body has stopped fighting desperately for his life that his mind has the time to catch up on everything that has happened with Rocky…and on Earth without him. It doesn’t help that he’s going to be the only human on a planet of Eridians and that his best friend’s mate doesn’t seem to like him much at all.

Ryland Grace tries his best to begin to live again rather than just be alive, balancing his severe attachment to Rocky and helping to fix Rocky’s marriage to a frustrated Adrian.
