The name made the figure pause, and then that body turned fully toward him as the light above gasped with life again, buzzing with the effort of staying on. That placid golden face turned toward him.

Was. It's useless now that Akechi knows, but Akira smiles as he speaks. He's cornered himself, mate in one, but it won't be the first time he's died. At worst he'll restart his probation again, back in April.
At best, they'll move to step two of his real plan, tearing apart Shido's conspiracy one crooked heart at a time until Akechi is as free as his past allows and resoundingly not dead. It'd be easy to resent the world for demanding Akira save it, but at least it's had the decency to let him save his friends along the way. All of them, even the one who only makes the job harder.
