Something is different.
I’m not entirely sure what it is, but since he returned from his trip, it feels like nothing is the same. Most things are. There are just a few key differences:
Before, the woods surrounding our home were a comforting presence. I loved hearing the hoots and chirps of birds and owls, and the songs of crickets on a warm summer night. I used to never think too hard about what lurked in the forest.
Now, something is different.Before, he looked at me with kind, loving eyes. Never was there so much as a hint of malice. They were always bright, no shadows cast on them.
Now, something is different.Before, I had a sense of peace within these walls.

Or, a person's quiet, simple life in the woods suddenly and drastically changes -- whilst swearing everything is the same.
