That’s when Heeseung sees it: a pair of wings spring out behind Jake’s back for a split second. More specifically, a pair of fairy wings. Like the ones he saw in the antique shop. The moment is so brief he almost questions whether it really happened or not—he’s still questioning whether any of this is happening or not—but he decides to trust himself for once and mumble,
“Are you… a fairy?”
“Well, yes, I thought you knew that already?” Jake says with a curious lilt. “You saw me last night. You were running after me.”
The first thing Heeseung’s brain does with that information is reprimand himself for assuming that all fairies are women. Should he apologize for misgendering Jake? He shakes his head, Not the right thing to think about right now.

Summary
Jaeyun tilts his head a bit, looking suddenly almost puppy-like, cute and wide-eyed and innocent, and – this is bad. Very bad. Heeseung should probably retreat and start pushing his truck out of their driveway and continue on until he reaches the next state over, no matter how long it takes or how it will inevitably lead to him collapsing from exhaustion twenty minutes in.
At least he’d be somewhere that Jaeyun is not, and he’d surely be better off for it.
“I asked if you’re a new volunteer,” Jaeyun repeats, and even his voice is pretty, his accent strong and thick, with a slight lisp that Heeseung manages to find simultaneously endearing and enticing. “For the church?”
Or, when Heeseung’s truck breaks down outside of a pastor’s house in the midst of a cross-country road trip that was supposed to give him a fresh start, he meets Jake, who’s in desperate need of a ride to a fresh start of his own. It’s a match made in – well, not in heaven. But something close to it.

heeseung and sunghoon stood by the main door, dressed in their most expensive suits, as they welcomed everyone who came in, directing them to the dining room. they scanned every face that went by with picky meticulousness, picking apart every feature and storing it in the back of their brains. even if most of the invitees looked like every other person walking out in the streets, there were a couple of them that definitely caught their eyes, for one reason or another -- a little girl with long, wavy, golden locks holding her mother's hand and hugging a stuffed teddy bear close to her chest; a man with icy blue eyes that seemed to look directly into the deepest corners of their minds whenever they locked eyes; a woman whose face wasn't particularly remarking, but her body was; and a young man with lips so plump that everything that came out of them sounded like the most delicious of songs, poems sung by the divine voices of god's angels.

when jaeyun was brought to stormborn as a part of peace treaty he expected to hate the people he met there for the rest of his life. he didn't expect a complicated web of emotions both for himself and the people involved, especially not the mysterious crown prince, lee heeseung who had somehow deemed him unworthy.
