What’s your point, other than impressing me with your tenth grade reading level?” Higgs leans down again, and the way he’s bending his body seems impossible, like he’s twisting his limbs into unnatural shapes and creating more space for himself out of nothing.
“Never asked for a nemesis, but kinda wish mine didn’t have a fuckin’ hard-on for stupid costumes.”
“Well, excuse me! I couldn’t find one of them goofy bunny rabbit hats you were wearin’ in that ghost mech factory. Guess you got the last one.”

Sam didn’t want to admit it, but he’d sunken into a state of depression similar to when he first thought he’d lost Lou. He was done with deliveries, maybe for good, and there simply wasn’t anything else to do. Sometimes he’d get a call or two from his friends, his daughter, or a message on the SSS praising his past work to the skies. But the time spent in between those seemed endless. Sometimes he selfishly wishes that Dollman hadn’t found his way out of his confinement just so he’d have someone to talk to, even if they came in the form of lectures. He’d look at the now unseeing doll sitting on the ledge of his shelf and sigh.
He spent an increasingly long time outside every day, skirting dangerously close to BT areas and high mountain peaks just to feel a hint of the thrill—that stir of being alive. He knew he was losing the fight against himself and against this god-forsaken bleakness of the world.

Then, it was times like this that he’d remember Higgs.

"The order was supposedly urgent - a data chip containing experimental Chiral technology had allegedly been stolen. The scientist, who did not want to be named out of fear their employment would be terminated, all but begged Sam to retrieve the data chip that night, and not to speak a word of it to anyone.
The whole thing reeked of suspicion, but it did pique his interest. As Sam read over the message a few times that morning, he decided that if he got there, and the whole thing turned out to be an elaborate trap, he would at least incapacitate the Demens, and steal their resources.
