He takes a deep breath of the cold night air, his thoughts clear for the first time his life. He slowly uncurls his fingers, ready for the peace on the other side.

A girl who looks to be in her teens sits on the rails, watching the lights of the city. Her long black hair and white dress sways gently with the wind.
“You’ll regret it,” the girl repeats, her soft wispy voice carried by the wind.

“I don’t like this, man,” Eddie sobbed, catching Chimney’s attention again. The sudden flood of tears streaming down Eddie’s cheeks was unexpected, but it was as if all the fight had gone out of him the second he had been restrained. He looked terrified, his forehead resting against the wall as his shoulders continued to shake, and it tugged at Chimney’s heart in a completely unexpected way.
He had already started to like Eddie, but this was something more. It was an instinctual urge to protect that he had experienced with Bobby, and Hen, and even Buck.
But never Eddie before this moment.
Yet here Chimney was, about to smack a cop for putting someone he cared about in handcuffs while high.

“His shirt’s on inside out,” Josh commented to Linda. Eddie opened the door to the breakroom and tried to let it close behind him, but that did not deter either of his colleagues. “Is this a walk of shame?”
“Well, I am walking,” Eddie confirmed, rounding the counter and beelining to the empty coffee pot. “And full of shame.”
“What happened?”
“I stood him up,” he answered, shortly.
After what was probably a very involved silent conversation between Linda and Josh, Josh said, “Eddie, if you aren’t ready, I’m sure he’d understand.”
“I am ready,” he said, detaching the water reservoir with more force than necessary. “I didn’t do it on purpose.”
