The rest of the night Lily was completely entranced by the woman. She let Sirius talk and if needed, she would respond with a non-committal hum. He didn’t seem to notice or care about her silence. It was not uncommon for her to contribute little to their conversations, she’s always been a natural listener. She supposes that's why she loves journalism so much. Having others trust her and share their innermost thoughts, desires and secrets to her. A reward on its own.
But that night she was not dutifully listening to her best friend, she was instead, selfishly gazing at another person. A person she didn’t even know the name of but who seemed to be occupying an excessive amount of space in her mind.
