Humans can go weeks without food. As long as they have access to water, some can even last months without biting into a hamburger or tasting the sweetness of strawberry jam on a biscuit hot out of the oven. There are drawbacks, of course, to skipping meals. Dizziness, fainting, weight loss too quick for the body to adapt to.
It’s Astarion's first table of the day. The dull, slow thump of his heartbeat rushes past his ears. His knees buckle with every step. He’s falling apart, he knows this, but with ten cents in the bank and another few days to wait until his paycheck comes in, all Astarion can do is keep putting one foot in front of the other and hope he doesn’t collapse. There’s no time to think about the metaphorical hand tightening around his stomach and throat.

After the year Gale had a health scare and locked himself in his house without interacting with anyone, Morena made him promise that he has to pick up the phone whenever she calls, no exceptions. If he doesn't answer, she has the right (and a key to his house) to barge in and check on him to make sure he's okay. Gale just so happens to be in a more precarious, lust-driven position with a certain albino when she next calls.

Stories above the bustling city streets, Hitoshi sits on the edge of a roof and watches Musutafu with weary eyes. For just a moment, he wonders what would happen if he jumps. It would be quick one, two minutes at most before his body squelched against the sidewalk, leaving a twisted body and a blood stain that would last for far longer than those who walked the busy streets would want it to. His dads would be called to the scene, and they would fall over his body, Papa trying to gather up the lifeless corpse to his chest while dad comforted them. They would mourn his death as the bystanders continued to walk by, maybe curious as to why the police were there or saddened if they caught sight of the mangled mess left behind, but the feelings would fade quickly after they passed the scene.
At the end of the day, only two people would mourn his death.
