Matt had been smoking.
Nick still couldn’t wrap his head around it. Matt, his clean freak brother, smoking? He seemed like the last person in the world to pick up such a nasty habit.
They’d tried to reason with him, but he refused to listen, insisting that smoking helped with his anxiety.
And if things weren't bad enough, Matt’s smoking was triggering Nick’s asthma. Badly. But with how tense things were with Matt lately, he didn't think it was a good idea to mention it, as it’d undoubtedly result in yet another fight between his brothers.
Besides, this wasn’t even the worst his asthma had been, so he’d be fine…right?

Matt raised an eyebrow. “Show you how? Do you want me to kiss you to demonstrate how it’s done?” He said sarcastically.
“Actually, that’s not a bad idea,” Nick said thoughtfully.
Matt blanched. "I was joking!"
After a disastrous first kiss with his boyfriend, Nick went to Matt and begged his brother to teach him how to kiss. Although initially reluctant, Matt eventually caved and agreed to help Nick on the condition that they never spoke of it afterward.

Summary
Nick knows his brothers support him wholeheartedly. There's not a homophobic bone in Matt or Chris' body. He knows this.
But sometimes, Nick is reminded that as loving and caring as they are, there are just some things that they'll never understand.
It's not their fault—Nick would never expect them to have the radar he does for detecting hatred. He had to develop it as a survival skill. Had to make sure he could sus out a homophobe without ever asking any direct questions. They didn't.
But fuck, is it hard being the only one who sees some things.

there seriously aren't enough fics centering Nick Sturniolo so why not just make my own?
all chapters will include TW if needed! + chapters will all be around 5k or so words since I physically can't write 2k words and stop there like a normal person
no incest. i'd rather eat a brick - this is all brotherly love and each chapter will be long! i physically cannot write 1k words and call it a day.

Doubt flickers through Nick’s resolve at the words.
It would be so easy to say yes. To let go of his grievances, to forgive and forget, to fall into Brian’s arms and let them isolate him from everything he’s ever known like they did before.
His head tips, eyes dragging up until they land on the balcony belonging to the room he’s being forced to share with his brothers for the next two weeks, finding said brothers leaning against the railing, standing just a few feet apart. They’re watching him. Even from so far away, the heat of their gazes makes him squirm.
He twists away to avoid them.

Or, nearly three years after an explosive fight that brought their relationship (and everything that came with it) to an end, Nick is forced into close proximity with his brothers in the lead up to his older brother’s wedding.
