"To clarify, since last night,” she emphasized, “You've had seizures, been burned alive by proxy because you're still connected to the hive mind, unlocked latent psychic superpowers just like your step-sister–" She glanced back at him briefly, "Who you then found out isn't your step-sister, but your actual half-sister because you share a psychic superpowered father– who just so happens to be the serial killer that your sister banished to another dimension."
Will made a sound that wasn't quite agreement and wasn't quite protest. She took it as confirmation and kept moving.
"But–" She continued, stepping over a root, "Somehow, everyone knew about this before you–" She stepped over a root "– so Mike fucking Wheeler dropped the bombshell that you were really supposed to be another lab experiment like your sister, and you've been lied to your whole life."
The footsteps behind her halted.
Max turned to see Will looking utterly exhausted as he considered her words for a moment before he mustered a languid half-shrug.
"I'm kind of having a rough day," He admitted with a weary sigh. She shot him a brief, disapproving look. He graciously accepted it with a wry tug at his lips.Series

"What other new things did you learn in California?" Mike asks, because he desperately wants to know, and also desperately wants to remain ignorant; pretend that the boy in front of him is just the same as he always was.
"Oh, you know," Will says, "just the usual. Fake IDs, shrooms, surfing."
Mike blinks at him, wide-eyed, and Will laughs. "I'm teasing. It wasn't really that different from Hawkins, actually."
He finds that hard to believe. Will lights the joint and takes a drag—his lips closing around it, a plume of smoke as he exhales—before handing it to Mike.
"Bullshit," Mike accuses.
Will blinks at him, surprised. Then he laughs. "Aren't I allowed to keep some things to myself?"
"Not from me."
Or: a Season 5 rewrite with no time skip, where Mike gets trapped in Vecna's mind alongside Max, and Will has to use his newly discovered powers to help them break out.

Summary
Mike Wheeler carries remorse.
For the things he didn’t say, the choices he made too late, and the life he watched slip through his fingers while everyone else kept moving forward. His mistakes are wrapped in fear, guilt, and feelings that never made it past his throat. When he dies and gains access to something impossible — a fracture in time, a bridge between moments — Mike is given one last choice. To fix it.
And more than anything, he wants Will back He wants to find him again, stand by his side, grow old together, chase their dreams, reach the top together. He wants everything. He wants all of Will — once more. And this time, he wants to do it right.
