    Summary

Things like this didn't happen to other people; Shane knew that. He’d been alive long enough to experience the confused glances and exasperated scoffs that always accompanied his discomfort with things other people didn't even notice. He would not fuck this up – not because he couldn't handle the way the sheets touched his skin. The burning of his skin spread to his eyes as his vision blurred. He squeezed his eyes shut and scrubbed his hands over his face. He would not cry.

The tears fell hot and silent. They pooled at the curve of his jaw and around his chin, puddles of shame and self-contempt. Fucking breathe, he told himself, as he turned the faucet of the shower as far as it could go.

He stood watching the water pool around his feet and slip down the drain until he heard Ilya stir. At first, he wasn't sure if he had really heard his name.

    “Shane?… Shane?”

He wanted to yell back, assure Ilya everything was fine, but when he opened his mouth, only a squeak escaped.

    “Moya lyubov?”

He cleared his throat and tried again: “In here.”

“I said,” Matthew snarls, his voice sounding unlike anything even he’s ever heard from himself before, “Don’t. Touch. My. Fucking. Goalie.”

    ---

Rule number one of Matthew and Joseph agreeing that they're going to try dating? Don't kiss on the ice. That's easy, because hockey is so fast that they barely get the chance to think about that. (Barely).

Rule number two? Don't go murdering people in each other's honour. That one is a little bit harder.

    Summary

Quinn’s bedroom in Michigan has always been a safe place to go for Jack and Luke.

Quinn gets to provide sage older brother wisdom to Jack and Luke about problems that aren’t to do each other and he doesn’t know whether to be wholly grateful for that or not. He can’t get away with using their weakness of their brotherly bond against them anymore, and that’s actually a bit scary. When did they decide to grow up?

Quinn’s reading before bed when he hears the hesitant three knocks that mean showtime.

    Summary

For a few minutes, the room was completely silent.

“He reminds me of me,” Nathan finally whispered, voice hoarse. “When I first came to the NHL. I thought I’d never live up to anything.”

Sidney was lying beside them, hand on Nathan’s hip, watching with soft eyes.

“You’re already more than enough. He is too,” Sid murmured. “He’s just too young to believe it yet.”
