Three years ago, there was an unsuccessful coup on Dreamland’s monarchy. The only thing keeping Meta Knight from execution was his usefulness, and perhaps the tears of the star-child himself. In those years he remained King Dedede's knight for the purposes of protecting Dreamland and preserving his life, though he was forced to stay in the castle walls and obey Dedede's every order.
