Summary
The thing is: maybe intelligence isn’t his forte, but if there is one gene that he got from the Jiang side of the family, it’s stubbornness. There is a clarity bell inside a carved box, waiting at Lotus Pier with no owner, and Jin Ling can’t leave it at that. He grabs for his own, under the pillow, raises it to the light.
It means a lot of things for him. Safety. Promise. Family.
It’s not much, he thinks, to wish for his own to get back together.
Where Jin Ling's curiosity leads to the promise of getting his uncles back together. He just didn't think they would make it so hard for him.

Summary
Boggart yaos are deadly shapeshifters that scare their victims to death by taking the shape of their worst fears. Their true form has never been seen by anyone in recorded history…until now.
A post-canon Xicheng fic.
…"You wish to know why the boggart yao did not take on a form when it faced me?" he asks. "What should I have left to be afraid of, I wonder? Losing my parents, my siblings, my home? The shidis and shimeis I grew up with? Or should I fear failing my duty to my sect by remaining unmarried and heirless? Perhaps I should be scared of failing those I love the most."
He risks a glance towards Wei Wuxian and Jin Ling, and instantly regrets it. Wei Wuxian is in tears, and his nephew doesn't look a whole lot better. Breathing in deeply, Jiang Cheng looks at Lan Xichen instead, drawing strength from the steadiness of his presence.
"What form could a boggart yao take for me," he finishes, "when everything I ever feared has already come to pass?"

As soon as Jiang Cheng felt the onslaught of coughs making its way up from his chest, he made haste to exit the conference hall. Sect Leader Yao had been going on, or rather demanding, that his sect be given tax relief this year because floods had ruined their crops and Chief Cultivator Lan Wangji, in spite of his infinite patience and stoicism, was starting to grow irritable. Probably eager to get back to Wei Wuxian, Jiang Cheng’s mind supplied as he tried his best to slip out the Gentian Hall unnoticed, ignoring the pair of unreadable golden eyes and Jin Ling’s hushed whispers of ‘jiu-jiu!’ that followed his retreating back.
OR, Jiang Cheng is dying from unrequited love, and Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian almost don't find out until it's too late.
