    Summary

A man who lives and works within the same four walls is a canary in a gilded cage. If the doors are open and he does not fly, then the bars are of his own making, and comfort is his foundation.

Wriothesley discovers that Neuvillette is touch-starved, and reaches out. However, to save a man who is self-imposed in isolation, he must be willing to reach back in reciprocation.

Written as a gift for the Wriolette Winter Exchange 2026.

    Summary

Finally, Wriothesley said, “It’s loud, today.”

He meant the sky. He meant the sorrow. He meant you.

Neuvillette tilted his head. “It is.”

Wriothesley wanted to ask what had made it so, but something in Neuvillette’s posture told him not to. Not yet. Instead, he tried something else. Something foolish. Something tender.

“…Do you think you could teach me how to speak to it?”

Neuvillette turned to look at him fully now. Wriothesley met his eyes without flinching.

“You wish to learn to speak to the rain?”

Wriothesley nodded, sheepish. “You always seem to know what it’s saying. I figure… maybe I should try to listen too.”

Neuvillette regarded him in that impossible way of his, like he was not just observing, but witnessing. As if Wriothesley’s soul had poked out from beneath his skin and Neuvillette had caught it, cradled it, questioned it. It made his stomach twist, made his fingers clench, made something fragile rattle in his throat.

Or, two men learn to speak a language made of silence and rain.

    Summary

“You’re not a bird, Sunday,” Mr Yang breaks the silence. Sunday’s eyes flick to him just in time to see him shake his head, his brow furrowed. “Nor are you flightless.”

“Aren’t I?” he retorts. It’s too late to back out now that he’s started the conversation, now that he’s laying himself bare in front of the one person he respects most on this train. “What is it that differentiates me from an injured dove, Mr. Yang? My body might be fine, but to say the same of my mind –”

“You’re not an injured dove either,” Mr. Yang cuts in, firm. Final. His gaze lifts from the tea, eyes blazing with something Sunday can’t name. “And even if you were, you would’ve gotten better with help.”

Or: Five times Sunday floundered while trying to find his place on the Astral Express and the one time he felt right at home.

    Summary

Caelus starts noticing that Dan Heng has become strange around him in a way that goes beyond his usual quiet protectiveness. He is always there, always watching, always tense whenever Caelus slips out of sight. What begins as confusion turns into something much more dangerous and much more tender when Dan Heng is finally forced to admit the truth. His Vidyadhara instincts have fixated on Caelus. Protective, possessive, deeply territorial, and humiliatingly affectionate, they keep driving him to gather pieces of Caelus close and build a hidden nest around the one thing his dragon mind has decided is most precious.

Caelus should probably be alarmed. Instead, he is fascinated. As Dan Heng’s control begins to fray, Caelus finds himself drawn deeper into the parts of him that are usually hidden away. Horns, scales, ancient instincts, quiet yearning, and all the soft terrifying want Dan Heng does not know how to ask for.

Or Dan Heng’s dragon instincts decide Caelus is his treasure, and Caelus reacts to that information with far less self-preservation than he probably should.

He grins, "I'm gonna name you Ranger."

In which Ashveil gets a dog.
