Summary
Just what the world needs, another Harry and Hermione fall in love in the tent fic. But! Hopefully this is done with heart and definitely no bashing.
They were a few spots away from the last location they were together with Ron, but it didn't stop Hermione from glancing up at the sound of breaking twigs, or the rustle of leaves, or the quieter whispers of wind. By some animal instinct, every time she glanced up he did too. He couldn't help but think of frightened deer, their ears pert and rotating, eyes focused, alert, listening for wolves. The main difference for them was that they wanted the wolf to come.
His glanced away from the empty forest to Hermione's dark eyes, still searching. "He won't find us." He used the sharp tone again, he still didn't mean it that way.
Her eyes moved to his, injured, her mouth bowed in pain. He felt a stab of remorse. To his surprise she moved closer to him instead of turning away. Their spheres of sadness had been separate the last few days, their moroseness quiet, however loud it felt inside his head.

Summary
It was a man at the door, and he walked in with an odd mixture of extreme self assurance and that same social fear she'd shown, herself, only a moment ago. His hair was black and stringy, looking clean but not altogether cared for, like parts of it had been burnt or cut away with a blunt knife. His face was young, like hers, but incredibly worn, like he'd been driven to exhaustion a few too many times. The suit he wore was nice, expensive, definitely, but draped over his nearly skeletal form like he'd never even consulted a tailor.
He took off his hat, grey to match his coat, and held it against his chest. "Hey, Hermione, do you mind if I talk to you for a bit? I just need some advice."
Stunned, she gestured an arm, stepping back to allow him into the library proper, instead of just the doorway. "How did you know my name?"

Asuma got Yuuhi Kurenai pregnant and then married her, which had the clans in a complete uproar.
The Yuuhi family was a small and barely signifcant shinobi family, not even related or affiliated to any of the main families and clans, and for Sarutobi to allow Asuma to ally with her family was a huge leap in status for the Yuuhi, and absolute insult to every other damn clan.
And as much as Iruka knew how much the two of them loved each other, it meant that Iruka was now set to marry a stranger to appease the clans.
Godddamit, Asuma.

Harry did not know this and would not know this until Mrs. Granger mentioned it casually over a Christmas dinner years and years later-- but she and Mr. Granger reported the Dursleys for child abuse and neglect, over and over.
The reports got lost-- minds scrubbed down, papers vanished-- but they kept calling in reports. They considered kidnapping. They couldn't imagine why the wizarding world might want to keep their chosen one somewhere so toxic, why they might want to keep this underfed child and his messy hair with those people.
"My mother left me a blood protection spell," said Harry, whose scar had not ached in years. He poked at his mashed potatoes under the focused attention of Mrs. Granger's stern little forehead wrinkle. "I had to live with family, blood family."
"Then they should have made them treat you right," Mrs. Granger said, as though it was that simple.
Mr. Granger gave Harry another helping of peas.
