Stupid fucking idea, he thought.
What a stupid fucking thing to do.
He won't even get to see their faces.
Although maybe that'll be for the better. His mum would cry. His dad would be disappointed - he'd think he was a coward, even if he didn't say it. Maybe he would say it, it's not like he'd have to spare Daniel's feelings anymore.
Isaac and Isa wouldn't really understand, it'd be easier on them. They'd forget, eventually. Daniel barely remembered his nonna, and he'd spent every childhood summer over at her house watching cartoons and excitedly telling her about karting whilst she cooked and nodded patiently, up until the scorching July she'd died of a heart attack.Max would be livid enough to walk all the way to Hell and get him back himself, probably. Drag him screaming and kicking all the way back to the surface.
The thought made Daniel chuckle. Sort of. Almost.
It was hard to chuckle with the coolness of the metal barrel shoved as deep into his mouth as it'd go.
He just hopes they can forgive him, hopefully.
Thankfully, he wouldn't be around to check.

Shouto gives him a warm smile, quickly signing, “You have really good friends.”
Bakugou’s mouth parts, the red on his cheeks matching the color in his wide eyes. He looks frozen and Shouto tilts his head, pushing away a stray lock of hair that falls across his face.
“Bakugou?” Shouto asks out loud, leaning forward. Concern soaks into his voice, maybe it’s not the air con, maybe Bakugou is just sick. He’s sure his friends haven’t gone far, he can catch up to them and finish the hearing aids for tomorrow.
Bakugou snaps out of it before he can continue trying to remember which way he saw them go, releasing an explosive breath, hand coming up to run down his face. He’s muttering too softly to himself for Shouto to hear, but he still catches something along the lines of son of a bitch and goddamn smile and kill me.
Shouto makes a small noise of concern.
“JUST FIX MY STUPID EARS, HALFIE!”

There’s a weird moment then, where Max does put the jacket on, and then kind of just– deflates into it. Realistically, Daniel isn’t that much larger than him, but he likes his clothing a bit oversized, and it settles nicely around Max. They look at each other, and Max’s eyes go a bit half-lidded with what looks like contentment. Daniel tells himself he must just be finally warm, and ignores the matching feeling in his own chest.
Daniel never does get his jacket back. He doesn’t mind for some reason.
(Or: Daniel tries to court Max by accident, stops himself because Max is a beta and doesn't even know what he wants, and then finds out neither of those things are true. Well. Second chances, right?)
