"The moment Ryland met Casey could have been a scene in a cheesy romantic movie. One of the good ones, where the leads fall in love at first sight and just know that they've found the One even if they're too scared to admit it to themselves at first. That's how Ryland likes to fantasize about it, at least. And then he imagines the happily ever after that follows once the protagonists get over their insecurities, and a part of him knows that if he gets to kiss Casey, if he gets to feel that soft smile against his lips even once, it would break him to ever let go."

Sometimes, Carl wonders if he’s a bad person.
He soothes himself by saying that a bad person wouldn’t wonder if they’re bad; they’d just be bad. But he also knows that’s not a good enough excuse because self-awareness is a curse even bad people have. He thinks, maybe, he’s not a bad person, he’s just someone faced with bad options.
He knows that Ryland Grace is a good person faced with no options.
