    Bookmarker's Notes

Cute cute cute!!! Note that the reader insert has experienced domestic violence—nothing extremely explicit but a plot point of the story—and there is canon typical violence in the last few chapters.

    Summary

Someone has to leave first. This is a very old story. There is no other version of this story.

Daniel could never be Orpheus — he's not a romantic at heart. He'd be more Eurydice. He looks down on Orpheus for looking back, for being fallible.

Henley's not Eurydice. She sees everything the world could be, could become — she has a gift to give. She'd be more Orpheus, looking for the romanticism of it all.

Still, though — the story doesn't change. It can't. There is no one to rewrite it. They try to walk out, and she knows the cold and dark is going to kill her. She has to turn away. He knows she's right behind him, knows that she chose him — and still, he has to turn back, can't trust her that she is.

    It's what ends them both.

    Summary

Jack holds out a hand — the same one with the pink leash still wrapped around it, and the neighbour’s brows furrow in amusement as he stares down at it, a slight uptick at the corner of his mouth. “I’m Daniel,” he says coolly, entirely too put together and collected for a man who’s just been kicked in the leg by a box, and he shakes Jack’s hand slowly. His skin is cold to the touch, and it’s more than a little distracting. “It’s nice to meet you.”

“Oh, I highly doubt that,” Jack blurts out, and cringes back the moment he says it. Below him, Goldie whines, as though to signify that she, too, thinks he’s said the wrong thing again. “I just meant— Well, this can’t have been nice.”

“A simple hello would have sufficed,” Daniel says, and the slight smile widens into a full-out smirk, “but I suppose having boxes lobbed at me is sure to leave an impression.”

Jack Wilder still hasn't met the elusive new neighbour who's just moved in nextdoor. The first meeting does not go quite as planned — but they make it work.

    Summary

The faculty at Ketterdam University can't wrap their heads around the Crow Chronicle’s sudden boom in popularity- is there something new about the design that draws people's attention? Perhaps it's the addition of the local bites column written by the ever-so-charming marketing major from Ravka?

Even Professor Haskell, the club's advisor, can't pinpoint what's changed, other than the two co- editors-in-chief he recently appointed. The pairing is, admittedly, a recipe for disaster, considering the two are tied for the top spot in KU's journalism program, challenging each other every chance they get.

It's no matter, the Crow Chronicle is a hit, which means Haskell must be doing something right. Besides, in his experience, most of the time the paper's success is dependent on something trivial, like where the stands are located or how often it rains each week.

Most of the time, at least.
