Summary
When a string of Death Eater murders pops up in the American Southwest, a Ministry-sponsored investigation is sent across the pond.
Draco Malfoy joins because he’s been promised complete freedom from his parole at the end of it. He’s several years out from a stint in Azkaban, he has a picture-perfect pureblood engagement, and yet he thinks, maybe, that the final thing barring him from satisfaction is the justice system’s stubborn hold on him.
So he goes. He doesn’t expect the empty vastness of the desert, or the unfriendly wariness of the people there. There are creatures he’s never heard of, and towns that hide from being known.
On top of that, Draco is dismayed to find that he has to discover it all alongside Hermione Granger— an old classmate he hasn’t even seen since before.
It’s possible that she is just exceptionally interested in matters of international justice. Or maybe she’s chosen the desert because she’s running away from something, too.
