Pulling off the impossible for a second time means Johnny’s back, for real, in his own body and everything… but at what costs? Is there even a place for the long dead rockerboy to come back to?
Loosely follows the Black Dog story from Cyberpunk Red.

A rush-date gets added to their dual headlining tour because management just so happened to see an easy cash-grab in a city that both Kerry and Johnny were equally not pleased to perform in. To make matters worse, management snagged them two rooms in an ancient fucking hotel that was advertised as ‘historic’ and ‘influential’, with stories upon stories of all of the long-dead famous people who once graced the hotel’s halls. Johnny couldn’t give a shit less; Kerry, however, spent far too much goddamn time on the Net dredging up horror story after horror story about this hotel and its creepy, haunted past.

Summary
Johnny survives the fall of the Arasaka Tower, along with the rest of the crew. It’s harrowing, especially when Smasher makes a valiant effort to shoot the chopper down, but they make it. However, Johnny’s just made himself number one on Arasaka’s Hit List yet again, and he’s gotta get outta Night City – fast.
Meeting back up with the Aldecaldo’s after he departed from the family around eight or so years ago, Johnny finds that things are relatively the same. Well, there’s the exception of Santiago’s apparent Second-in-Command who’s a real take-no-shit hard ass and, honestly, a complete and total dick.
Johnny hates him.

What he doesn’t expect is for the front man of the no-name punk band to be the same damn Latino hunk that give him and Kerry a preem lap dance at Dicky Twisters for Kerry’s birthday. Nor does he expect the kid to have the absolute set of lungs that he displays as he dances around in the dirt with his band.
But now that he knows this, Johnny decides he’s gotta know more. It might end up with him biting off more than he can chew, however.

In the hungover afterglow of an adrenaline-razed hormone-fueled bump-and-grind performance on stage, still love-drunk and sore-nosed, he blurts his feelings for Johnny into the stale coffee-scented air against his better judgment. He expected to get decked for it, leave him bloody and bruised while his best friend – and the love of his life – mocked him for getting too close.
The last thing he expected, however, was the flash of pure unadulterated fear that rocketed across Johnny’s usually smarmy countenance, nor for him to flounder for words, lips parted but no sound escaping.

Summary
The memory of V jumping from cover, hurling insults at Adam Smasher to catch his attention, will forever be ingrained in Johnny’s past as one of the worst events he’s witnessed. The mercenary selflessly sacrificed himself so Johnny and his team could flee, getting himself torn to shreds in the process. It was a nightmare that plagued Johnny, a recollection of his greatest failures, of everything he tried to accomplish and was never strong enough to.

"They were right – meeting with Hanako had been the beginning of the end. Game, set, match. He was done for at this point, set to give his life for V’s. It was horrifically bittersweet. To give up his second chance for someone he had come to love in ways he never thought possible… fuck.
Silence once again draws between them for a bit longer before Johnny shifts, frowning minutely, curling his hands into fists against his thighs. “Fuckin’ scared me, know that?” he murmurs, hating the way his voice wavers. “Thought you were on your way out.”
V hums softly. “No… still here.” He leans forward, bracketing his forearms on his thighs, hair sweeping in front of his eyes. He’s still studying Johnny, ruby eyes glowing like lit-up gemstones in the city’s night lights of neon and smog. They carry an intense weight to them, an edge, that makes the rocker’s skin crawl minutely. Oh, V, who always felt everything far, far too strongly. V, who loved openly, with the absolute entirety of his being. V, who he would give anything possible save. V, who he would give everything to save."

"Shaking his head with jerky movements, V clears his throat and bounces onto his heels. “Fuck, I—I… I just needed to see you, Ker. I’m really freakin’ the fuck out about this whole Hanako thing. I—I’m gonna be meeting with her tomor—er, today. Later today. Haven’t slept, can’t sleep.”
Pressing in close, Kerry captures V’s lips in a gentle kiss, feeling some of the wired tension ebb out of his partner’s frame. They break apart but Kerry doesn’t go far, resting his forehead against V’s. “Everything’s gonna be okay, baby. You got this, you and Johnny both. ‘Sides, it’s just a conversation, right?”
“Y-yea, but it… it kinda feels like the beginning of the end, too, and I—I—” V cuts off, tries to take a deep breath, and falls short. It only registers a little too late that he’s slipping into a panic attack, worsened when he sees Johnny appear in the corner of his eyes, pacing frenetically, hands dug into his hair. He glitches out of existence for a moment, reappears, and then rounds on V, eyes wide and fearful. Then he disappears once again in a discordant burst of static."

Johnny blinks into existence, hauls himself up on the desk next to V, before crossing his feet at the ankle and letting them swing idly. “Bored,” he mutters, and V looks up at him for a moment, arching an eyebrow. There’s a slight twitch of his lips though, as though he’s resisting a smile – knowing him, that’s probably exactly the case.
Setting his pistol down, still half-disassembled, V leans back in his chair to look up at the engram; a part of him already knows where this is going. “And that’s my problem, how…?”
Nudging V’s knees apart with a foot, Johnny smirks as the merc’s expression flushes with arousal. “Could be a whole hell of a lot less bored if a certain merc decided to service a different pistol,” he teases, dragging the toe of his boot along the inside of V’s thigh, leather barely catching against the dark denim."

Well, they had one, and as much as Johnny fucking seethes at the thought of it, it might be their most solid lead. They need to see Hanako.
V weakly agrees, and their hearts pang with sadness, both of them afraid of the implications. They don’t want to be separated, but they need to be, to save V’s life.
They sit there for a while longer, until the chill of the December air settles too thickly in past the sweater and skin-tight jeans V’s wearing, and Johnny picks himself up off the ground. The slide back to letting V take control is easy, still, at least. A small mercy amongst the wreckage of their lives. V has to take a couple of deep breaths, reacquaint himself with his body, roll his shoulders and flex his hands."

“It’s not a fear!” Johnny snaps, quickly turning on his heel, jabbing an accusing finger in V’s direction. He’s not expecting the merc to be so close, so his finger ends up punching into his chest, but it still has the desired effect. “They’re just gross.”
“Alright, alright, they’re just gross,” V echoes, holding his hands up defensively before following up with, “to you.” The finger jabbed into his pec reels back into a fist that connects lightly with his shoulder, and he laughs. “I won’t tell Ker, babe. Secret’s safe with me. Don’t like spiders or deep, dark waters, got it. Anything else?”
Johnny merely glowers at him in response."

And as it turns out, it’s not – at all. Swallowing thickly, Johnny wills his – V’s – feet to move, bringing himself to the side door and stepping into the villa. Kerry looks up excitedly, but his expression switches when he catches on to the demeanor change, becoming far more reserved. “… Johnny?”

"When they reach his building in the Glen, Johnny coaxes him awake, helps him to the elevator. It earns a couple odd stares, this man being dragged along by an invisible force, but neither think about it too hard.
It takes all of Johnny’s limited effort to get V into bed; he collapses next to him, breathing heavy, eyes trained on the form of the young merc stretched out on his back. He reaches a hand out, sweeps the hair out of his face, gently runs a finger along his bearded jaw.
V’s eyes blink open and he tilts his head to Johnny. “Thanks,” he whispers hoarsely.
Johnny scoffs. “Don’t thank me. M’the one doin’ this to ya.”
“Not your fault,” V counters, still struggling to catch his breath. He shifts more fully onto his side, reaching a shaky hand out. Johnny catches it, curling their fingers together.
“Rest, V,” he murmurs, giving a gentle squeeze."
